  • Mapping Disparities in Charitable Food Access in Georgia

Open Access•Maya Rao, Jerry Shannon et al.•ARTICLE•The Professional Geographer•2026

  • Assessing nutrition security and its risk factors using the National Household Food Acquisition and Purchase Survey data

Open Access•Vibha Bhargava, Jung Sun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2026

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of nutrition security and examine its association with community food environment factors, including food access and affordability. Design: This cross-sectional study used data from the 2012–2013 National Household Food Acquisition and Purchase Survey, including its restricted-use Geography Component (FoodAPS-GC). Household nutrition security measure was derived by combining self-assessed food security and se…

  • A multimodal ensemble stacking model improves brain age prediction and reveals associations with schizophrenia symptoms

Open Access•Junhyeok Lee, Seo Yeong Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Our findings demonstrate that integrating sMRI and FA features improves brain age prediction accuracy and generalization. Furthermore, the correlation between brainPAD and clinical symptoms highlights its potential as a biomarker for disease progression and treatment monitoring. These results underscore the value of multimodal neuroimaging and machine learning in advancing psychiatric neuroimaging research and paving the way for clinical applicat…

  • Association between heart rate variability metrics from a smartwatch and self-reported depression and anxiety symptoms

Open Access•Young Tak Jo, Sang Won Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Our findings indicate the potential of PPG-derived HRV metrics in monitoring mental health, thereby providing a foundation for further research. Notably, parasympathetically biased HRV metrics showed weaker correlations with depression and anxiety scores. Future studies should validate these findings in clinically diagnosed patients

  • Association of clozapine with structural and resting-state functional abnormalities of the hippocampus in chronic schizophrenia

Open Access•Sung Woo Joo, Sang Kyoung Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Patients with schizophrenia undergoing clozapine treatment exhibited smaller volumes in the hippocampal subregions, which were moderately associated with negative symptoms and cognitive functions, compared to those without clozapine treatment

  • Effects of a Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program With Expanded Education for Low-Income Adults

Open Access•Nicholas Slagel, LJ Asor et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education & Behavior•2022

Fruit and Vegetable Prescription (FVRx) Programs combine produce prescriptions and nutrition education to reduce fruit and vegetable consumption barriers and promote health among low-income patient populations. This study examined whether a multi-level FVRx intervention model with intensive education improves dietary behaviors, food security, and health outcomes over single-level interventions alone. A 6-month nonrandomized, parallel, controlled …

  • Adapting a Nutrition Education Curriculum for Spanish-Speaking Adults Experiencing Low-Income

Sarah Stotz, Mona Habibi et al.•ARTICLE•Ecology of Food and Nutrition•2021

The purpose of this study was to understand recommendations of key stakeholders regarding cultural adaptation of an evidence-based nutrition and physical activity education curriculum for Spanish-speaking adults. Findings from focus groups with Spanish-speaking adults (n=43) and telephone interviews with experts in Spanish nutrition and health education (n=9) revealed: 1) emphasis of the heterogeneity of Spanish-speaking communities; 2) importanc…

  • Deterioration in Global Organization of Structural Brain Networks in Schizophrenia

Open Access•Seung‐Hyun Shon, Woon Yoon et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Schizophrenia is a heterogenous neuropsychiatric disorder with varying degrees of altered connectivity in a wide range of brain areas. Network analysis using graph theory allows researchers to integrate and quantify relationships between widespread changes in a network system. This study examined the organization of brain structural networks by applying diffusion MRI, probabilistic tractography, and network analysis to 48 schizophrenia patients a…

  • A mixed-methods evaluation using low-income adult Georgians’ experience with a smartphone-based eLearning nutrition education programme

Open Access•Sarah Stotz, Jung Sun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2018

Objective To understand low-income adults’ expectations and experiences using an innovative smartphone and theory-based eLearning nutrition education programme, entitled Food eTalk. Design Longitudinal mixed-methods single case study including a series of focus group and individual interviews, demographic and Internet habits surveys, and user-tracking data. Interviews were transcribed verbatim, analysed using the constant comparative method and d…
