  • Group‐based guilt makes university students more short‐sighted depending on making choices for self or others

Open Access•Xiaowei Geng, Yan Zeng et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Journal Of Social Psychology•2026

People do not only feel guilty for transgressions that they are causally responsible for (i.e., personal guilt); they also feel guilty for transgressions committed by those they identify as ingroup members (i.e., group‐based guilt). It is not clear how group‐based guilt influences people's intertemporal choices. To explore the effects of group‐based guilt on individuals' intertemporal choices and the moderating role of making intertemporal choice…

The findings revealed that, at both individual and …

  • Smiling at Others Nudges Recipients to Make Far-Sighted Choices

Open Access•Xiaowei Geng, Yan Zeng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology•2026

Despite the prevalence of intertemporal decision-making in interpersonal contexts, few studies shed light on how the facial expression of the proposer influences the recipient's intertemporal choices during human interactions. Addressing this gap, the authors conducted a three-experiment investigation into how smiling—one of the most important facial expressions conveying a willingness to engage in cooperative and pleasant social exchanges—shapes…

  • Human-AI cooperation makes individuals more risk seeking

Xiaowei Geng, Chao Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2025

    Open Access•Long He, Xiaowei Geng et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2025•References: 1

The thermal environment problem is one of the main focuses of current urban environment research. At present, there are various methods used in urban space thermal environment (USTE) research. As a simulation method to quantify the USTE, the urban weather generator (UWG) has undergone great development and achieved many progressive results. It is necessary to establish and review its current research status by synthesizing UWG multi-scale applica…

  • Meritocracy Beliefs Are Positively Related to Institutional Trust Only in Societies With Many Economic Freedoms

    Open Access•Xiaowei Geng, Chi‐yue Chiu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Issues•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 51

Meritocracy refers to the ideology that reward should be allocated to individuals based on their merits (effort and abilities). Social psychologists have studied it as a universal justice principle in reward allocation and a belief that justifies merit‐based social stratification. Taking a geopolitical stance, we further contextualize meritocracy is a socially and historically situated hierarchy‐legitimizing construct used to reinforce social div…

  • Influence of regulatory focus and regulatory fit on impact biases in affective forecast

Xiaowei Geng, Hongyi Jiang•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2017
