Fostering students’ autonomy within higher education
As 'self-law', autonomy contributes to people's psychological health and helps secure meaning in one’s life. Within higher education, it enables students to navigate this environment and prepare for professional life, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and development goals. Autonomy is multidimensional, encompassing the local ability to regulate thoughts and behaviours, and the global ability to establish a sense of existential …
Ibis
Three species of large, long‐legged Ibis, all with long decurved bills – the African Sacred Ibis ( Threskiornis aethiopicus ), the Northern Bald Ibis ( Geronticus eremite ), and the Glossy Ibis ( Plegadis falcinellus ), can be shown, from mummies, bone remains, hieroglyphs, art, and artifacts, to have existed in ancient Egypt.
Birds, Pharaonic Egypt
One hundred eighty‐three bird species have so far been identified on the balance of probabilities from the mummies, bone remains, hieroglyphs, art, and artifacts of ancient Egypt. Just six of these appear to have been depicted only in Predynastic times.

Aspects of the role of the residential theological college in the initial education and training of the clergy of the church of England
The article challenges a simple view of the role of the residential college, in this case the professional training colleges for Anglican priesthood. After a brief explanation of how Anglican priests are selected and trained through a system which is both traditional and personal and at the same time bureaucratic and organisational, the authors examined secondary works, the literature produced by the college to describe themselves and a pilot-stu…

Karl Jaspers'The Idea of the University
The article is written to bring forward for discussion Karl Jaspers' The Idea of the University, published in 1923 and extensively revised in 1946. The origins of the work, with its close relationship to Jaspers' own intellectual progress and his contribution to the rebuilding of the post-war German university systems, is described. The main themes of the book (wholeness, tension and boundary situations, communication, and the freedom of the inte…
Ortega y Gasset's Mission of the University
The article re-examines Ortega y Gasset's Mission of the University and works by the same author, principally in order to see which questions raised by Ortega about Higher Education continue to be relevant. Three related areas of his work are examined: the role of the intellectual in society, his doctrine of economy in education, and his central argument for a pedagogy of the university. The area of study he defines as ‘culture ̊s is examined and…
