  • Test of a model of decision processes in an intense conflict situation

    Open Access•Steven G Cole, James L Phillips et al.•ARTICLE•Systems Research and Behavioral…•1977

A particularly intense form of conflict is uelative conflict. It is a situation in which at most one of some set of participants may obtain an objective and in which it is possible that none will obtain their objective. A mathematical model is derived from basic assumptions about the decision making process in a three-person uelative conflict situation, a truel. It is proposed that the model is generalizable to re-person situations. A preliminary…

Open Access•E Alan Hartman, James L Phillips et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Conflict Resolution•1976•Cited by: 1•References: 6

A study of conflictive behavior in a three-person laboratory game provided support for five hypotheses or principles of survival in multipolar power systems: (1) the probability of survival is maximized by having as much or more power than the combination of all potential enemies; (2) if such hegemony is not possible, the probability of survival increases and conflict decreases following a transition from a multipolar to a bipolar power system; (…

    Open Access•James B Goebel, Steven G Cole•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1975

44 Mexican-American Ss and 44 white Ss in grade 9 rated a white and a Mexican-American stimulus person whose beliefs were unknown on a Similarity, Friendliness, and Social Distance Scale. The high-prejudiced white Ss perceived the white stimulus person as significantly more similar to themselves and reported that they would be significantly more friendly toward th…

  • Coalition preference as a function of vote commitment in some dictatorial “political convention” situations

    Open Access•Steven G Cole•ARTICLE•Systems Research and Behavioral…•1971

The present study proposed that the political convention situation in which one candidate has dictatorial control over the nomination (dictator situation) is not as psychologically uninteresting as it has appeared in previous research. The contact phase of the coalition formation process in three triadic dictator situations was examined. Some support for the prediction that strategy selection would be a function of the level of vote commitment wa…
