Qualitative Analysis of Asian American College Women’s Sexual Socialization and Experiences with Sexual Relationships, Sexual Consent, and Sexual Assault
Patient-provider communication and the role of PrEP coordinators
Despite the proven effectiveness of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in preventing HIV infection, significant disparities in its uptake persist, particularly among HIV priority populations in Arizona, USA. Patient-provider communication plays a vital role in facilitating PrEP access, especially when discussing sexuality and HIV-related risk behaviour. To explore how communication dynamics shape HIV prevention services, we conducted 24 semi-structu…
Long-term exposure to fine particulate matter, ozone, and greenness and the risk of lung cancer
Background and objective Given the rising incidence of lung cancer among never smokers and growing concerns about environmental risk factors, this study investigated the association between long-term exposure to air pollution and greenness and the risk of lung cancer. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis using data from the Korean National Sample Cohort (2002–2019), including 7,155 lung cancer patients and 28,620 propensity score-…
North Korea, missile defense, and U.S.-China security dilemma
This article examines the relationship between US missile defense and the US-China security dilemma dynamics by developing the concept of diffuse signaling involving the Korean peninsula. We argue that the US’ efforts to bolster deterrence against North Korea’s growing threats through missile defense have resulted in China’s countermeasures of enhancing survivability and penetrability of its second-strike capability, leading to downward spirals o…
Decoupling from China
As the U.S.-China strategic rivalry has intensified, Washington has looked to its close allies and partners to counter Chinese clout in global technology leadership. With the Huawei ban as a proxy for the U.S.-China competition, the paper focuses on the concept of the alliance halo and analyzes how the three key U.S. allies in Asia—Australia, Japan, and South Korea—responded to Washington’s expectations of mutual support on the decoupling of Chin…

The Tribute System and the World Imagined in Early Modern East Asia
The field of international relations has long treated the Westphalian system and states in the territorial sovereign sense as the standard or ‘normal’ in IR. The World Imagined by Hendrik Spruyt boldly challenges this habit as the biases of our times and instead brings non-European historical international systems into their rightful place in our study of international order and international relations theorising more generally. Unpacking Spruyt’…

China's Hegemony
Many have viewed the tribute system as China's tool for projecting its power and influence in East Asia, treating other actors as passive recipients of Chinese domination. China's Hegemony sheds new light on this system and shows that the international order of Asia's past was not as Sinocentric as conventional wisdom suggests. Instead, throughout the early modern period, Chinese hegemony was accepted, defied, and challenged by its East Asian nei…
Brief Report
Little is known about how common sexual agreements (SAs) are among mixed-sex couples. Data from 555 partnered, mixed-sex adults who completed a 1-time web survey were used to describe who had a SA in their current relationship and associated factors. Sixty-two percent reported having a SA. Having a SA was associated with identifying as bisexual or questioning, owning a smartphone, and recently having anal sex in the current relationship. Further …
Contested American hegemony and regional order in postwar Asia
Why did American-led postwar institution building lead to different types of security orders in Asia and Europe? The article investigates the failure of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)—the only postwar multilateral security organization in the Asia-Pacific region that resembled NATO—as contrasted with NATO’s survival. Despite the popular notion of ‘American liberal hegemony’, the US-led multilateral security institution in fact fac…

China's Hegemony
HIV-negative male couples’ attitudes about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and using PrEP with a sexual agreement
One efficacious strategy to help prevent HIV is oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a daily regimen of antiretroviral treatment taken by HIV-negative individuals. Two of the recommendations of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for PrEP pertain to being in a relationship (i.e., male couples). Despite the recognition of how primary partners in male couples' relationships shape HIV risk and CDC's PrEP guidelines, there is…

Perceived Challenges and Rewards of Forming a Sexual Agreement Among HIV-Negative Male Couples
Hegemonic Authority and Domestic Legitimation
Some argue a powerful China will likely reestablish a Sinocentric tribute system in pursuit of hegemony in Asia. This line of argument, however, rests on misleading images of the Chinese empire while assuming hegemony is a product of a single agent and its activities. But, why do actors comply with, defy, or challenge hegemonic authority? I argue hegemony is not just an outcome of the material power of the preponderant state, but is constructed i…
Horticultural Therapy Program Based on the Stress Immunization Training for Reducing Depression Symptom in the Patients with Stroke

Twenty six stroke patients aged over 50 years (10 males, 16 females) with symptom of mild or moderate depression were participated in this study. A total of thirteen patients in the experimental group were participated in the 16-session HT program (twice a …

Diplomatic Ritual as a Power Resource
What explains Korea's success in surviving as an independent state for over 2,000 years, not annexed to China, when it shares a border with this powerful imperial neighbor? I argue that diplomatic ritual can be conducive to managing asymmetric power relations and that the Korean state and the Chinese state prior to the nineteenth century used the diplomatic ritual of investiture in a strategic manner as a signaling mechanism to manage the expecta…
