  • The impact of climate change on credit cycles

Open Access•Kong Chong Ho, Kung-Cheng Ho et al.•ARTICLE•Technological Forecasting and…•2024

This study examines the long-term impacts of climate change on credit spreads using a sample of A-share listed companies that issued corporate bonds between 2014 and 2020. The results indicate that the greater the climate change risk a company faces, the greater its bonds' credit spread; the secondary bond market perceives the potential harm caused by climate change. This conclusion remains valid after endogeneity treatment and robustness tests. …

  • The relationship between oral status and healthy aging in Chinese older adults

Open Access•Maitixirepu Jilili, Yan Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2024

These results highlight the importance of maintaining ≥20 teeth for promoting healthy aging among Chinese older adults. Furthermore, wearing dentures can, to varying degrees, mitigate the adverse effects of tooth loss on healthy aging. Rehabilitative interventions, such as the utilization of dentures and other clinical strategies, play a pivotal role in enhancing the oral health status of older individuals

  • Feasibility of Bio–Coagulation Dewatering Followed by Bio–Oxidation Process for Treating Swine Wastewater

Open Access•Dejin Zhang, Weicheng Han et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The unsatisfactory performance of the conventional swine wastewater treatment is drawing increasing attention due to the large amount of refractory chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogen, and phosphorus attached to the suspended solids (SS). In this study, for the first time, a novel process based on bio-coagulation dewatering followed by a bio-oxidation (BDBO) system was developed to treat swine wastewater containing high-strength SS, COD, TN, a…

  • Narrative medicine in clinical internship teaching practice

Open Access•Jing Yuan, Xiangyang Zeng et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Education Online•2023

Objective: To explore the effect on empathy skills of integrating narrative medicine instruction into clinical internship undergraduate medical education. Methods: One hundred clinical undergraduate students who were transferred to gynecology and obstetrics in 2016 were selected as subjects and divided into two groups. The control group adopted the traditional practice teaching mode, while the experimental group adopted a narrative medicine integ…

  • Climate policy uncertainty and firm-level total factor productivity

Open Access•Xiaohang Ren, Xiao Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Economics•2022

Using 2605 Chinese A-share listed companies in the mining, manufacturing, and energy production and supply sectors from 2009 to 2020, we examine the relationship between climate policy uncertainty (CPU) and firm-level total factor productivity (TFP). The main findings are as follows: First, CPU significantly reduces firm-level TFP, with a greater impact on low-productivity firms than on high-productivity firms; second, the negative effect of CPU …

  • The interrelationship between the carbon market and the green bonds market

Open Access•Xiaohang Ren, Yiying Li et al.•ARTICLE•Technological Forecasting and…•2022

The 26th edition of the United Nations climate change conference (COP26) underlines the importance of financial products and markets related to “carbon” (e.g., carbon and green bond markets). We, to our knowledge, are the first to construct a framework based on multiple time scales and market conditions to quantify the interrelationship between the carbon futures and green bond markets. Specifically, we estimate it from short-, medium-, and long-…

  • Epidemics, Public Sentiment, and Infectious Disease Equity Market Volatility

Open Access•Jinxia Meng, Qingyi Su et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Background: This article studies the relationship between the COVID-19 epidemic, public sentiment, and the volatility of infectious disease equities from the perspective of the United States. We use weekly data from January 3, 2020 to March 7, 2021. This provides a sufficient dataset for empirical analysis. Granger causality test results prove the two-way relationship between the fluctuation of infectious disease equities and confirmed cases. In …

  • Using Geographically Weighted Regression to Study the Seasonal Influence of Potential Risk Factors on the Incidence of HFMD on the Chinese Mainland

Open Access•Jingtao Sun, Sensen Wu et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2021

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is an epidemic infectious disease in China. Its incidence is affected by a variety of natural environmental and socioeconomic factors, and its transmission has strong seasonal and spatial heterogeneity. To quantify the spatial relationship between the incidence of HFMD (I-HFMD) and eight potential risk factors (temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed, air pressure, altitude, child population density, …

  • Does globalisation alleviate polarisation

Open Access•Jianchun Fang, Giray Gozgor et al.•ARTICLE•World Economy•2021

In this study, we investigate the effects of globalisation on polarisation in a panel data set of 149 countries between 2000 and 2017. We consider the Revisited KOF Globalisation indices and two measures of polarisation: polarisation of society and political polarisation. The findings show that globalisation decreases polarisation. We also separate de jure and de facto measures of globalisation and observe significant suppressing effects of the d…

  • Multi-objective optimal allocation of water resources based on ‘three red lines’ in Qinzhou, China

Open Access•Haopeng Guan, Lihua Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Water Policy•2020

Water shortages and pollution emerge because of anthropogenic demands. Since 2011, ‘China's Most Stringent Water Resources Management’ (CMSWRM) has been comprehensively enacted in the country. This paper presents the characteristics of the ‘three red lines’ (TRL) and a multi-objective optimal allocation model based on the TRL constraint, considering the benefits for society, the economy, and the environment. This model had been applied to the rea…

  • Spillover and dynamic effects of energy transition and economic growth on carbon dioxide emissions for the European Union

    Open Access•Xiaohang Ren, Cheng Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2020•Cited by: 8•References: 5

This paper introduces “spatial effects” and “dynamic effects” to investigate the influences of economic growth and energy transition on cross‐country CO 2 emissions movements within the European Union (EU). We apply the fixed‐effects dynamic spatial Durbin error model to empirically gauge the magnitude of the spatial impacts and dynamic impacts for a sample of 26 EU countries throughout 1990–2015. By analyzing the empirical results, we conclude t…

  • Characterization of Aerobic Denitrifying Bacterium Pseudomonas mendocina Strain GL6 and Its Potential Application in Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent

Open Access•Wen Zhang, Cheng Yan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

To remove nitrate in wastewater treatment plant effluent, an aerobic denitrifier was newly isolated from the surface flow constructed wetland and identified as Pseudomonas mendocina strain GL6. It exhibited efficient aerobic denitrification ability, with the nitrate removal rate of 6.61 mg (N)·L -1 ·h -1 . Sequence amplification indicated that the denitrification genes napA , nirK , norB , and nosZ were present in strain GL6. Nitrogen balance ana…
