Critical Adult Education in Food Movements
This book focuses on new research on the importance of critical education for the spread of food sovereignty and agroecology.
People, power, change: Three Pillars of a Food Sovereignty Research Praxis
This article is situated within nascent debates on the role of academics within food sovereignty movements. Drawing on insights from a collective autoethnography, we report on our experiences conducting three food sovereignty research projects in different contexts and at different scales. Transformative agroecology learning in Europe: Building consciousness, skills and collective capacity for food sovereignty
Agroecology has been proposed as a key building block for food sovereignty. This article examines the meaning, practices and potentials of ‘transformative agroecology learning’ as a collective strategy for food system transformation. Our study is based on our qualitative and action research with the European Coordination of Via Campesina to develop the European Agroecology Knowledge Exchange Network (EAKEN). This network is linked to the global n…
Governments, grassroots, and the struggle for local food systems: Containing, coopting, contesting and collaborating
Transformative research as knowledge mobilization: Transmedia, bridges, and layers

In contrast, a transformative research paradigm is rooted in knowledge mobilization processes involving close collaboration between researchers and community actors as co-enquirers as a part of a broader agenda for progressive social change. They also involve st…
Possible case of hyperparathyroidism in a roman period skeleton from the Dakhleh Oasis, Egypt, diagnosed using bone histomorphometry
A histomorphometric study of thin femoral head sections of a skeletal sample from the Dakhleh Oasis, Egypt, dated from circa 36 B.C. to 400 A.D., identified an adult female (Dk31‐A1) in her mid‐50s with a high percentage resorption surface with tunneling resorption as is typically found in hyperparathyroidism. Five static histomorphometric bone parameters were measured with the following results for this individual: 1) mean wall thickness, 41.94 …
