  • Social roles of women in medicine, psychiatry, and social work

    Aaron Rosenblatt, Stuart A Kirk•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1982•References: 10

Empirical data from a study of women in medicine, psychiatry, and social work are brought to bear upon a hypothesis which suggests that within various professions the higher the proportion of minority members, the greater the likelihood of their occupying significant positions

  • Recognition of Authors in Blind Review of Manuscripts

    Aaron Rosenblatt, Stuart A Kirk•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1980•Cited by: 4•References: 7

Some scientists claim that blind review is rarely possible. Since referees of journal articles are supposed to be experts in a particular field, they are expected to know all about the current work being carried out by important investigators. The results of this study show that the major source of information tipping off the identity of authors is the manuscript itself, not the expert knowledge of referees. Almost all referees who guessed the id…

  • Women's contributions to social work journals

    Stuart A Kirk, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•Social Work•1980•Cited by: 8

Publication of articles in professional journals is an accepted measure of scholarly productivity and leadership. To assess the intellectual contribution of women in social work, this study examined the authorship of articles in five major social work journals over a period of forty-four years

  • Interpreting Null Findings of Evaluative Studies

Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1977

When an evaluator comes to interpret negative or null findings of a service program, he sometimes acts like a politician instead of a scientist. Far from dwelling in an ivory tower, an evaluator is surrounded by the hurly-burly of everyday life. Unless strucrural mechanisms are introduced to protect him, his judgment can be unduly swayed by nonscientific considerations. Six suggestions are offered that may grant him some needed protection

  • An assessment of accountability areas by psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers

    Jack F Wilder, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1977•References: 7

Sixty-nine psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers rated the usefulness of fifteen studies representing seven broad areas of accountability. Although respondents differed in experience, training, and position in the hospital hierarchy, their ratings were highly similar. Results suggest that, in the hospital under study, members of the three professions respond as members of a single profession--clinician

  • Encounters with Danger

Open Access•J E Mayer, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•Sociology of Work and Occupations•1975

The social services, especially today, are intent on providing ghetto dwellers with adequate care. But this mission cannot be accomplished unless service workers are willing to enter ghetto areas and to incur risks to their physical safety. This paper describes some of the sociopsychological and structural influences which induced and later enabled a group of social workers to expose themselves to physical harm. On a more general level, it bears …

  • The recidivism of mental patients

    Aaron Rosenblatt, J E Mayer•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1974

A review of studies on readmission of patients to mental hospitals uncovered only one variable that consistently predicted the rehospitalization of mental patients: the number of previous admissions. It is suggested that the tendency of the psychiatric profession to search for a determinant of rehospitalization in diagnostic and psychopathological terms results in too narrow a focus, and that social processes contribute in large measure to patien…

  • Clash in perspective between mental patients and staff

    J E Mayer, Aaron Rosenblatt•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1974•References: 10

The opinions of mental patients traditionally have been ignored by mental health researchers, although they are most relevant if patient care is to be improved. A comparison of patient and staff opinion reveals that patients have a more positive view of the hospital, and disagree with staff in their conceptions of what makes patients “get better.”
