‘Our Home Holiday Town’: Youth participatory research for ethical and responsible tourism
This article explores the role of children and young people as change agents in promoting ethical and responsible tourism at the local level. Drawing on a youth participatory research project that used social theatre as a medium of inquiry and advocacy, the study explores how young participants navigated roles as researchers, educators, and activists. Carbon dioxide capture and geological storage: Research, development and application in Australia
Projections of world energy demand indicate increasing use of fossil fuels, especially coal. Because of this there is interest in using carbon dioxide capture and storage technologies as a mitigation option, particularly in Australia because of its dependency on fossil fuels for electricity generation. Research in Australia into capture options includes post-combustion capture (PCC), integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and oxyfuels comb…
Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and ethnic origin
Our results suggest that C. pneumoniae infection may be more prevalent among Afro-Caribbean than among Caucasian people, and that Asians may lie somewhere between them in this respect. The behaviour of this pathogen in different ethnic groups deserves further investigation. Future studies of this organism should give due attention to the ethnic origins of patients
The Industrial Craftsworker: Skill, Managerial Strategies and Workplace Relationships
This study of skilled workers in industry analyzes the linked and often apparently contradictory relationships between craftsmen and managers and craftsmen and non-skilled workers. It considers the alternative views of the craftsman as a status-striving labour aristocrat within the workforce and as a focus for radical and militant challenge to management, and shows how craft skill and craft control are an important dynamic force for technological…
