  • Prevalence of COPD by age, sex, socioeconomic position and smoking status; a cross-sectional study

    Open Access•Kate Levin, Dean P Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education•2020

Purpose The purpose of this study is to calculate gender and socioeconomic status (SES) inequalities in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and measure the proportion of inequalities explained by smoking. Design/methodology/approach Medical records until May 2016 were linked to mortality data to measure COPD prevalence. Population estimates for smoking status were calculated by merging three (2013–2015) Scott…

  • Multimodel Inference

    Open Access•Kenneth P Burnham, David R Anderson•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2004•Cited by: 209•References: 37

The model selection literature has been generally poor at reflecting the deep foundations of the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and at making appropriate comparisons to the Bayesian information criterion (BIC). There is a clear philosophy, a sound criterion based in information theory, and a rigorous statistical foundation for AIC. AIC can be justified as Bayesian using a 'savvy' prior on models that is a function of sample size and the numbe…

  • Comparison of Conservation Training Procedures

    Open Access•David R Anderson, Alice T Clark•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

Direct comparisons were made among four different conservation training procedures, reversibility training, compensation training, addidition/subtraction training and a verbal reinforcement method in order to determine which might best facilitate conservation acquisition in previously nonconserving first grade students. The data indicated that verbal methods stressing principles of reversibility and addition/subtraction resulted in the acquisitio…
