  • Drawing insight

    Open Access•Julie B Grant, Jacqueline Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2026

This article offers a reflexive methodological account of incorporating sequential art narrative as an analytic adaptation within hermeneutic phenomenology. Developed during a phenomenological study of acute care nurses’ experiences of providing existential support to patients facing life-limiting illness, sequential art emerged as a response to meanings that exceeded straightforward linguistic articulation. Rather than functioning as data or ill…

  • Trust in the patient–provider relationship

    Open Access•Emily Barr, Jake Brasch et al.•ARTICLE•Arts & Health•2025•References: 3

Arts-based research offers an innovative method for exploring complex emotions such as trust by capturing subjective experiences that traditional methods may overlook. Adolescents and young adults with HIV (AYA-WH) are less likely than older adults to achieve viral suppression and remain engaged in care, with only 40-60% retained one year post-transition to adult services. Patient-provider trust plays a critical role in care engagement and adhere…

The American Historical Association annual presidential addresses provide evidence of transformations in the profession and the discipline from the founding of the association in 1884. It was not until the late 1970s that AHA presidents began to explore the histories of women and people of color in any depth; before then, addresses gave short shrift to whole swaths of the human population, and many of these talks promoted a triumphalist view of U…

Three focus groups were conducted among 19 adults living with HIV, aged ≥ 50 years, who were enrolled in or recently completed a supervised exercise intervention. Sessions were recorded, transcribed, and coded first using inductive methods. All participants were male, and the majority were white, non-Hispanic; 5…
