  • How to design a trigger warning

Open Access•Hannah Willems, Julia Anna Glombiewski et al.•ARTICLE•Cognition & Emotion•2026

143 healthy participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: (1) TW with content and emotional reaction details, (2) TW without details, or (3) no TW. There were no group differences in negative affect. Between the TW conditions, participants who received the less specific TW reported lower coping expectations, more intrusions, and greater distress over three days. The wording of a TW seems to have differential effects. Providing both …

  • In the grip of pain

Marcel C Schmitt, Julia Karbach et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2025

Emotional granularity (EG), or emotion differentiation, reflects the ability to distinguish between same-valenced emotional states in a nuanced way. While traditionally considered a stable trait, recent research shows that EG can fluctuate within individuals, influenced by situational factors such as stress. Building on this work, the present study investigated how momentary pain as a specific stressor relates to momentary EG in the daily lives o…

  • On the current psychotherapeutic situation for persons with pornography use disorder in Germany

  • Metacognitive Change During Exposure and Metacognitive Therapy in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Open Access•Jana Hansmeier, Anke Haberkamp et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Metacognitive therapy (MCT) has been shown to be a promising treatment approach for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The changeability of metacognitions by (metacognitive) treatment and its relevance to treatment outcome is, however, still unclear. The current study investigates, (1) if treatment with MCT or exposure and response prevention (ERP) in a randomized-controlled pilot trial ( n = 24 patients with OCD) changes OCD-specific metacogni…

  • Using Different Expectation Mechanisms to Optimize Treatment of Patients With Medical Conditions

Tobias Kube, Tobias Κube et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2018

  • Muscular Reactivity and Specificity in Chronic Back Pain Patients

Julia Anna Glombiewski, Jens Tersek et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2008

OBJECTIVE: To compare the muscular reactivity of patients with chronic back pain (CBP) to different psychological stressors with the reactions of healthy controls. We also investigated the specificity of muscular reaction near the site of pain in comparison to distal sites. The symptom-specificity model of chronic pain postulates that increased muscle tension in CBP patients may be responsible for the development and maintenance of chronic pain. …
