  • Future-proofing nature-based tourism in Canada

Brooklyn Rushton, Christopher J Lemieux et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2026

Global climate change, biodiversity loss, health crises, and economic instability converge to form a polycrisis that challenges the sustainable planning, management, and operations of parks, protected, and conserved areas (PPCAs) for biodiversity conservation and nature-based tourism (NBT). Utilising a horizon scan methodology for the first time in the tourism field, this paper engaged experts across Canada to identify and critically examine the …

  • The value of natural capital in Canada’s national parks and national marine conservation areas

    Open Access•Dan Mulrooney, Brenda Jones•ARTICLE•PARKS•2023

Growing attention is being given to protected areas and the ability of their natural capital assets to provide a varied and long-term stream of benefits to individuals and society in general. These areas are often heralded for ensuring natural capital assets persist, but value is often limited to the economic impact of visitor expenditures and the associated effects on regional and national economies. Few studies have attempted to quantify the ec…

  • Faith, Race, and LGB Affirmation

    Open Access•Janeé R Avent Harris, Derek L Roberston et al.•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 25

In this phenomenological study, the authors investigated the experiences of African American counselors-in-training, with roots in the Black church, as they navigated their faith and professional responsibilities to provide affirming services to lesbian, gay, and bisexual clients. Findings suggest attitudes toward lesbian, gay, and bisexual clients are intertwined with faith, race, and community allegiance

  • The dynamic nature of social disadvantage

    Open Access•Jean Andrey, Brenda Jones•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•2008•Cited by: 5•References: 47

Urbanization and re‐urbanization continually alter spatial patterns of social disadvantage and hazard exposure, which in turn affect social vulnerability. The current study explores vulnerability to hazards in Greater Vancouver over a 15‐year period (1986 to 2001). Results illustrate how social disadvantage is multi‐dimensional and emerges from the social geography of a city. The study illustrates the speed with which both the structure and spati…

  • Treatment with CRH‐1 antagonist antalarmin reduces behavioral and endocrine responses to social stressors in marmosets ( Callithrix kuhlii )

    Open Access•Jeffrey A French, Jeffrey E Fite et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2007

Corticotropin‐releasing hormone (CRH) has multiple roles in coordinating the behavioral and endocrine responses to a host of environmental challenges, including social stressors. In the present study we evaluated the role of CRH in mediating responses to a moderate social stressor in Wied's black tufted‐eared marmosets ( Callithrix kuhlii ). Male and female marmosets (n=14) were administered antalarmin (a selective CRH‐1 receptor antagonist; 50μg…

  • Implications of climate and environmental change for nature-based tourism in the Canadian Rocky Mountains

    Open Access•Daniel Scott, Brenda Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Management•2007•Cited by: 31•References: 15

  • A regional comparison of the implications of climate change for the golf industry in Canada

    Open Access•Daniel Scott, Brenda Jones•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•2007•Cited by: 7•References: 6

Golf is a recreation industry particularly sensitive to climate, yet the potential implications of climate change for the industry remain largely unexamined. This study presents findings of the first known impact assessment to compare the regional impacts of projected changes in the climate on the golf industry in Canada (or internationally). Empirical relationships between daily rounds played and four weather variables were defined through multi…

  • The Impact of Climate Change on Golf Participation in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

Daniel Scott, Brenda Jones•ARTICLE•Journal of Leisure Research•2006•Cited by: 5

Golf is identified as a large recreation industry that is particularly sensitive to weather and climate, yet research assessing the direct relationship between them is extremely limited. Consequently, the potential implications of climate change for the industry remain largely unexamined. This case study presents findings of an analysis of the influence of weather conditions on the number of rounds played at a golf course in the Greater Toronto A…

  • The use of multiple informants to assess children's maltreatment experiences

Open Access•Joan Kaufman, Brenda Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Violence•1994•Cited by: 7•References: 4
