Post‐Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Pancreatitis in the Oldest Old
As the global population ages, the demand for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the “oldest old” (≥ 85 years) is steadily increasing. Despite their vulnerability, the existing evidence base for prophylaxis is heavily derived from younger populations, creating a significant extrapolation gap. Current guidelines for the prevention of Post‐ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) advocate for universal measures—such as aggressive hydration and…

Covid ‐19 Pandemic and Non‐standard Employees in Japan
This article aims to grasp the influence of the pandemic on standard and non‐standard employees in Japan and clarify its disparity between them. In 2020, there was an imbalance between the slight increase in standard employees and the massive loss of non‐standard employees in the labour market. Non‐standard employees' working hours were greatly reduced, often without allowances for absence, and hence their monthly income considerably diminished. …
The Behavior of Same-Race Others and Its Effects on Black Patients’ Attention to Publicly Presented HIV-Prevention Information
Black Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population, yet account for 54% of HIV deaths and 44% of new HIV diagnoses. Why do Black Americans die from HIV at such a disproportionate rate? In the current study, we asked whether the presence and behavior of in-group peers in public health settings may influence Black Americans' attention to HIV information, given the racialized nature of HIV-stigma in Black American communities. In a quasi-experimenta…
An evidence-based faculty recruitment workshop influences departmental hiring practice perceptions among university faculty
Purpose Many university programs seek to promote faculty diversity by reducing biases in hiring processes. The purpose of this paper is to conduct two studies to test the individual- and department-level impact of a faculty recruitment workshop (FRW) on faculty attitudes toward evidence-based, equitable hiring practices. Design/methodology/approach Study 1 included 1,188 faculty who had or had not attended an FRW. Respondents were surveyed about …
Shūgyō kikai to hōshū kakusa no shakaigaku
The principal aim of the Abe administration’s ‘work-style reform’ efforts is to eliminate the unreasonable wage gap between standard and nonstandard employees. This issue has not been dealt with sufficiently until now for two reasons: first, government, labor, and business could not agree on what exactly ‘unreasonable’ meant, and second, personnel departments and labor unions, despite their obvious involvement, failed to accurately understand the…
Two Components of Wage Gaps Induced by Individual‐level Variables
Individual‐level variables such as gender, education, occupation, and employment type are well‐known factors that induce wage gaps in the labor market. This article aims to divide wage gaps into two components—those arising within each firm (the intra‐firm wage gap) and those arising between different firms (the inter‐firm wage gap)—and measure their respective proportions by individual‐level variables, as studies suggest that each wage gap based…
Core self‐evaluations in Japan
The present study tested, in a non‐Western culture (Japan), the relative validity in predicting job satisfaction, life satisfaction, and happiness of core self‐evaluations (CSE), positive and negative affectivity (PA/NA), and the Neutral Objects Satisfaction Questionnaire (NOSQ). Consistent with previous results in primarily Western cultures, the four lower‐order traits that comprise CSE—self‐esteem, generalized self‐efficacy, locus of control, a…
II. External Competence Implications of the Ec Regulation on Jurisdiction and Judgments
Council Regulation 44/2001 on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of Judgments in Civil Commercial Matters 1 replaced the 1968 Brussels Convention on 1 March 2002 for Member States of the European union Except Denmark. 2 This has given the European Community exclusive competence in matters relating to jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments. As a result individual Member States can no longer freely ratify conven…
Jurisdiction to Grant an Interim Freezing Order
If a defendazCnt to legal proceedings conceals or dissipates his assets before a judgment is given, the execution of the ensuing judgment may become impossible. To preserve the possibility that a future judgment will be executed, both English and Japanese courts have power to grant interim relief freezing a defendant's assets. As is well known, this is achieved in England by the Mareva injunction, which is now called simply “freezing injunction” …
