A qualitative examination of the relationships that serve a mentoring function for Mexican American older adolescents
This exploratory study was an in-depth examination of Mexican American adolescents' relationships with nonparental adults. Qualitative interviews with 10 Mexican American adolescents revealed 23 nonparental adults who served a mentoring function in their lives. Six of these nonparental adults were also interviewed. A Longitudinal Examination of the Transition into Senior High School for Adolescents from Urban, Low‐Income Status, and Predominantly Minority Backgrounds
The current 6‐year study investigates the impact of the elementary (K–8)‐to‐high school (9–12) transition on the school completion outcomes of 107 adolescents from urban, minority, low‐income status backgrounds. Descriptive findings provide a longitudinal profile of students' enrollment status throughout high school. In this descriptive study, the perceived stress, coping, and coping effectiveness of 158 low-income, urban, Mexican American 10th graders were assessed using open-ended and structured interview procedures. Follow-up study on low- and high-risk hispanic high school students
Hispanic high school students at low or high risk for drop out were followed up 1 year after their expected graduation date. Low-risk students completed school at a significantly higher rate than high-risk students.
