Women who reported any sexual abuse (n = 208) differed from women who reported no abuse (n = 363) in their age at first voluntary sexual interc…

  • Predicting Sexual Experience in Adolescent Boys From Peer Rejection and Acceptance During Childhood

Shirley Feldman, S Shirley Feldman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•1995•Cited by: 7•References: 22

This longitudinal study of 77 boys focuses on the relation between peer relationships in 6th grade and number of sexual partners in 10th grade. Separate models were built for peer rejection and peer acceptance. In 10th grade, 56 boys were virgins and 21 were sexually experienced, the majority with multiple partners. As predicted, peer rejection in sixth grade was associated with number of sexual partners 4 years later via self-restraint and misco…

  • Family influences on adolescent male sexuality: The mediational role of self‐restraint

    Open Access•Shirley Feldman, S Shirley Feldman et al.•ARTICLE•Social Development•1993•Cited by: 10•References: 12

To assess childhood family influences on adolescent sexual activity, 69 boys were studied in sixth grade and again in tenth grade. Boys' self‐restraint in sixth grade was hypothesized to mediate the effects of family influences on number of sexual partners four years later. Family scores included observed family interaction patterns, sons' reports of parents' child‐rearing practices (rejection, support, child‐centered/indulgence), and household c…

  • Stress in families of institutionalized and noninstitutionalized autistic children

    Open Access•Jean Holroyd, Nancy L Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•1975•References: 2
