  • Genetic Admixture Analysis in the Population of Tacuarembó-Uruguay Using Alu Insertions

    Yasser Vega-Requena, Yasser V Vega-Requena et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2020•References: 4

Tacuarembó is a department located in northeastern Uruguay, whose population is the result of several migration waves from Europe and Near East, as well as Africans and Afro-descents mostly from Brazil; these waves settled with the territory’s various Native ethnic groups (Charrúa, Minuán, and Guaraní). In the past, this population has been the focus of genetic studies showing this trihybrid origin, with greater contributions of Natives and Afric…

  • Developing campaigns in the context of a disaster: Content of and reactions to advertising following the earthquake in Chile on February 27, 2010

Open Access•Rodrigo Uribe, Pedro C Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Disaster Prevention and…•2015

Purpose – The purpose of this paper are to determine: how disasters are used as a theme in advertising; how the public evaluates different ways of using disasters in advertising; what dimensions directly affect these evaluations; and what aspects should be taken into account by an organization that wants or need to develop a campaign after a disaster. Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents two studies examining the relationship between…

  • Frequencies of the Four Major Amerindian mtDNA Haplogroups in the Population of Montevideo, Uruguay

Cecilia Gascue, Adriana Mimbacas et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2005•Cited by: 9•References: 2

mtDNA Amerindian polymorphisms were studied in 108 inhabitants of Montevideo, Uruguay, using PCR RFLP analysis. Amerindian haplogroups were found in 20.4% of the sample. The frequency of Amerindian polymorphisms in Montevideo differed significantly from that observed in Tacuarembó, a city about 400 km away, indicating the high level of variation within Uruguay. Results for mitochondrial markers indicate that admixture occurred primarily as a resu…
