  • Urban structures, population density and municipal expenditures

    Open Access•Tomáš Hudeček, Pavel Hnilička et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2019•References: 14

The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the type of urban spatial structure, population density and the selected types of capital and current municipal expenditures. Seven types of urban spatial structures at the level of city blocks are defined. Different types of municipal expenditure (urban green, pavement, roadway and public lighting) are estimated by the data from 22 Czech cities and six city districts. The cap…

  • Game Theory, Coalition Formation and Political Power Concentration in the Prague City Assembly

    Open Access•Martin Dlouhý•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2016•References: 10

The objective of the paper is to study the political development in the Prague City Assembly after three elections in 2006, 2010, and 2014. The theory of voting games, the Shapley-Shubik and Banzhaf power indexes, and theories of coalition formation are used for an analysis of possible majority coalitions. We developed the mayor's power index that measures the probability that the party will be the strongest party in the majority coalition with t…

    Open Access•Martin Dlouhý•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2009•References: 4

Mental health has an economic impact on both individuals and societies. There is lack of information on total cost of mental illness in the Czech Republic, especially on social services financed by municipalities and private resources. In the health sector, the share of mental health expenditures is estimated to be 3-4 % of total health expenditures. In the social security system, mental illness is responsible for 3.3 % of total sick-days, 14.2 %…

  • Use of data envelopment analysis for efficiency evaluation of czech hospitals

    Open Access•Martin Dlouhý, Josef Jablonský et al.•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2007•Cited by: 2•References: 6

Efficiency of hospitals belongs among frequently discussed topics of public policy. This paper deals with a nonparametric model for efficiency evaluation of hospitals - data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA evaluates efficiency of production units with the help of mathematical programming. DEA specifies the production frontier as the most pessimistic piecewise linear envelopment of the data. In case that a hospital is inefficient DEA determines th…
