  • Romanian adolescents, fake news, and the third-person effect: A cross-sectional study

Nicoleta Corbu, Denisa-Adriana Oprea et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Children and Media•2022

Despite their apparent digital literacy, adolescents often have trouble assessing the accuracy and trustworthiness of the information they encounter. Given the proliferation of fake news and that adolescents are new (or soon-to-be) voters, important issues arise for democratic processes. This study is the first to investigate Romanian adolescents’ self-perceived ability to evaluate the credibility of the news in their media diet. Drawing on a nat…

Open Access•Nicoleta Corbu, Raluca Buturoiu et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Calitatea Vieții•2022•References: 59

Multiple forms of disinformation have proliferated on digital media platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, when news consumption increased considerably. In this specific context, this paper investigates the way media diet influences the third person perceptions about people’s ability to detect fake news. We focus here on some understudied predictors of third person perception about fake news detection, such as diversity of media diet and belief …

Open Access•Raluca Buturoiu, Georgiana Udrea et al.•ARTICLE•Societies•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 14

The current COVID-19 pandemic has been accompanied by the circulation of an unprecedented amount of “polluted” information, especially in the social media environment, among which are false narratives and conspiracy theories about both the pandemic and vaccination against COVID-19. The effects of such questionable information primarily concern the lack of compliance with restrictive measures and a negative attitude towards vaccination campaigns, …

  • They can’t fool me, but they can fool the others!’ Third person effect and fake news detection

    Open Access•Nicoleta Corbu, Denisa-Adriana Oprea et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Communication•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 40

The aftermath of the 2016 US Presidential Elections and the Brexit campaign in Europe have opened the floor to heated debates about fake news and the dangers that these phenomena pose to elections and to democracy, in general. Despite a growing body of scholarly literature on fake news and its close relatives misinformation, disinformation or, more encompassing, communication and information disorders, few studies have so far attempted to empiric…

  • Between the heroine mother and the absent woman: Motherhood and womanhood in the communist magazine Femeia

    Open Access•Denisa-Adriana Oprea•ARTICLE•European Journal of Women s Studies•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 5

This article explores the representation of motherhood and womanhood in the Romanian communist magazine Femeia and the extent to which this publication was a mere vehicle of the official pronatalist policy of Ceausescu’s regime. Two phases have been identified, overlapping both the evolution of the magazine itself and the Party’s ideology. The author metaphorically designates them as follows: (a) 1966–1971/1972, Almost the ‘Eternal Feminine’ and …

  • Du féminisme (de la troisième vague) et du postmoderne

    Open Access•Denisa-Adriana Oprea•ARTICLE•Recherches féministes•2009
