Escape From Machiavellianism? Thomist Themes in Twentieth Century Political Realism
Political realism is often seen as vulnerable to the “Machiavellian temptation,” that is, to the bracketing out of moral principles in the conduct of statecraft. Effects of Optic Flow Speed and Lateral Flow Asymmetry on Locomotion in Younger and Older Adults
The purpose of the study is to investigate whether there are age-related differences in locomotion due to changes in presence of vision, optic flow speed, and lateral flow asymmetry using virtual reality technology. Gait kinematics and heading direction were measured using a three-dimensional motion analysis system. Although older and younger adults were affected differentially by the availability of vision, a greater dependence on optic flow inf…

A review of: Oliver O'Donovan, The Just War Revisited (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2003). 150pp. $19.99. Oliver O'Donovan sees just war as grounded in the establishment of an evangelical, or gospel-based, judgment. This view is contrasted to those of pacifism and realism. The two relevant principles of O'Donovan's vision of just war are discrimination, the attempt to distinguish between guilt and innocence, and proportion, the use of r…
