  • How does a large-scale disaster impact on the used-car market? A case study of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Open Access•Yuya Shibuya, Hideyuki Tanaka•ARTICLE•International Journal of Economic…•2019

  • Evaluating Mixed Research Studies

    Open Access•Nancy L Leech, Amy B Dellinger et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Mixed Methods Research•2009•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 7

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate application of a new framework, the validation framework (VF), to assist researchers in evaluating mixed research studies. Based on an earlier work by Dellinger and Leech, a description of the VF is delineated. Using the VF, three studies from education, health care, and counseling fields are evaluated. The three mixed research studies differed in design and implementation. Elements of the VF were exa…

  • Two new methods applicable to center of pressure swing analysis

Open Access•Teruo Uetake, Hideyuki Tanaka et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2004

Two new methods that accurately analyze the displacement velocity of the center of pressure (COP) in order to diagnose postural control systems are presented: a wavelet analysis method and a method that analyzes the distribution of COP displacement velocity. Both methods could easily detect a transient but significant phenomenon in a series of COP swings. Recovery training based on diagnoses made by these methods should enable individuals to main…

  • Influences of Head Orientation on the Unperturbed Postural Sway in Human Upright Stance

    Open Access•Hideyuki Tanaka, Teruo Uetake•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2003

We examined the effects of head orientation on postural sway during quiet upright standing. Twenty healthy male subjects with diverse balance abilities were included in this study. Postural sway was estimated using an instrumented force platform to record the center-of-pressure (COP) under a subject’s feet during standing. The subjects were tested with the ‘head straight’ (normal) and with the ‘head back’ (I.e., neck extension), both conditions w…

  • Numerical analysis of the proximal humeral outline

    Open Access•Hideyuki Tanaka•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1999

A new method is presented for the numerical analysis of bilateral differences in the size and shape of the proximal humeral outlines using elliptical Fourier functions (EFFs). A skeletal sample of 36 pairs of right and left humeri was used. The proximal superior view in the plane of the proximodistal axis of each humerus was photographed with an 800 mm telephoto lens. The two-dimensional humeral outlines were carefully traced onto acetate sheets …

  • Posterior Lower Leg Profile of the Japanese. Comparison of Non-Athlete and Athlete Groups (Swimmer, Sprinter, and Kendo Player)

Open Access•Teruo Uetake, Fumio Ohtsuki et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1999

The shape of the posterior profile of the lower legs in the lateral view was examined by Moire photography in 281 healthy, Japanese aged 18-22 years participated in different sports.Subjects were 140 male and 28 female non-athletes, 30 male and 14 female swimmers, 21 male sprinters, and 48 male kendo players.Using a cubic spline function and geometrical data from the Moire photographs, the posterior profile of the lower leg in the lateral view wa…

  • The Characteristics of Fast Speed Walking in Old Men from the Viewpoint of the Ground Reaction Forces

Open Access•Kazuo MAIE, Tadatoshi YAMADA et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1992

Characteristics of the fast speed walking in old men, primarily from the viewpoint of the ground reaction forces, were investigated in comparison with those during the ordinary speed walking. As a result, the following were recognized as the characteristics of fast speed walking in old men; (1) the walking speed, step length, and brake impulse as well as acceleration impulse began to decrease pronouncedly from the age group in their 60s, (2) the …

  • The Characteristics of Walking with Different Types of Shoes as Viewed from the Ground Reaction Forces

Open Access•Kazuo MAIE, Shiro Kondo et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1992

The characteristics of walking with different types of shoes were investigated from the viewpoint of ground reaction forces, as compared with those during walking barefoot. The shoes used in this experiment were three types for casual or business uses for men, which were on the market in Japan. The same shoes were worn by 4 male subjects of the same shoes sizes. It was concluded, from the analysis of variance and the mean difference test, that (1…
