  • Opportunity for natural selection among five population groups of Manipur, North East India

Muhammad Asghar, Yaiphaba Sanjenbam et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2014

Opportunity for natural selection among five population groups of Manipur in comparison with other North East Indian population has been studied. Crow's index as well as Johnston and Kensinger's index for natural selection were calculated based on differential fertility and mortality. The mortality component was found to be lower compared to fertility component in all the populations which may attribute to comparatively improved and easily access…

  • Common genetic heritage and admixture among Indian population groups as revealed by mtDNA markers

Open Access•Yaiphaba Sanjenbam, Sanjenbam Yaiphaba Meitei et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2012•References: 1

The present study determines the inter-and intra-population affinities or variations among the diverse population groups of India. The major goal of the present study was to understand the peopling of India and its role in the peopling of Southeast Asia using 11 restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) markers. A total of 950 unrelated individuals belonging to 19 population groups having varied ethnic, linguistic,…

  • Genetic sketch of the six population groups of Rajasthan: A Study Based on 12 Autosomal Loci

    Open Access•Rima Dada, Kallur N Saraswathy et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2011•References: 4

Rajasthan lies on the northwest border of India, and has acted as a major route for human movements since prehistoric and historic times. The present study was conducted to gain an insight into inter-and intrapopulation affinities or variations among the six population groups of Rajasthan. DNA samples from 221 unrelated individuals belonging to six endogamous population groups of Rajasthan, including both tribal (Bhil, Damaria, Garasia, Mina and …

  • Incidence of Renal Stone: An Investigation among the Aimol Tribe of Manipur

    Open Access•Khangembam Somibabu Meitei, M P Sachdeva•ARTICLE•Studies of Tribes and Tribals•2010

The present study is based on the demographic data collected from December 2007 to February 2008 among the Aimol tribe of Chandel district, Manipur. A questionnaire schedule was administered among 163-households of nine villages covering 496 adult individuals of either sex ranging in age from 18-90 years. A total of 34 adult individuals (6.86%) were found to have kidney stones and Chi–square (χ2 = 0.48; 0.50 < p < 0.30), comparison showed non sig…

  • The Study of Rhesus System among the Rajputs and Varlis of Dadra and Nagar Haveli

    Open Access•Khangembam Somibabu Meitei, Gautam K Kshatriya•ARTICLE•The Anthropologist•2010

The present study is based on the study of phenotype and haplotype frequencies of the Rh (CcDdEe) system among the Rajput and the Varli populations of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The haplotype CDe was found to have the highest percentile observed frequency for both populations. The Chi-square estimates for the comparison of Rh (phenotype) blood group distribution between the Rajput and the Varli groups show non-significant differences among them. In …
