  • The autobiographical documentary

Vladimir Rosas-Salazar, Vladimir Rosas et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Documentary Film•2021

This essay aims to examine how archival material is repurposed within autobiographical documentaries in order to reconstruct the documentarian filmmaker’s self in relation to their family. It is plausible for the filmmaker to explore their own identity by reexamining their family history, especially with interviews and observational devices; however, domestic media plays a particular role in creating a supporting discourse that finds new meanings…

  • Cartography of Chilean political documentary film

    Open Access•Rubén Dittus, Erna Ulloa Castillo•ARTICLE•Anàlisi•2017•References: 1

This paper presents a tour for the principal milestones of the history of the documentary political cinema in Chile, from its beginnings as politically active cinema up to the most emblematic producers who narrate the effects of the post military dictatorship. It is a cartography that articulates from the concept of political discourse associated with an audiovisual rhetoric, and where historical landmarks such as the government of Salvador Allen…

In the field of organizational communication, the notion of autopoiesis has been mostly used to explain the mechanisms that constitute organizations in autonomous systems. In this paper we argue that to better understand the autonomy and the constitutive mechanisms of organizations we need to study the narrative processes that distinguish organization as a unity. This statement is based on two premises: first, the intrinsic relation between autopoi…

  • Public opinion and the social imaginary

    Open Access•Rubén Dittus•ARTICLE•Athenea Digital Revista de…•2005

This article critically examines the 'spiral of silence' theory of public opinion. I examine the claims that humans possess a biological desire for peer acceptance and a fear of peer rejection, and I argue that both these claims have an essentialist connotation. I argue that an individual's 'social self-protection', which allegedly reflects the so-called fear of isolation, is better understood as an institutional reaction sustained by the mass me…
