  • Transformative Computing Education

Open Access•Michael Karlin, Mike Karlin et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2026

Despite recent expansions in K-12 computer science (CS) education, entrenched equity gaps persist, and elementary students are notably underserved. Early experiences shape identities and interests, yet best practices for elementary CS remain understudied. Over four years, this study explored elementary teacher perceptions of both the learning experiences offered in CS education and the reported impact of those experiences on teacher perceptions o…

  • Defence Public Sector Undertakings in India

Taranpreet Kaur, Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Economic and political…•2026

Defence is crucial for India's national security, guarding against internal and external threats. In 2023, India ranked fourth in global military spending at USD 83.6 billion, maintaining a large army of 1.3 million personnel and allocating 16-17% of its central government budget to defence since 2011. The country has 17 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), notably including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which leads in production va…

  • Missing targets

Swati Mehta, Saroj Mehta•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Media•2024

Despite limitations and uncertainties, digital media platforms are integral to mobilization and organizing in the climate movement. Their appeal and utility for public engagement is largely attributed to direct interactions among users, increased visibility, and the ability to measure and validate these interactions through quantified engagement metrics. While the affordances of specific platforms and their influence on social movements have been…

  • Exploring computer science understanding and rationales in preservice teacher pathways through faculty professional development

Michael Karlin, Yin‐Chan Liao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Technology…•2024

With the increasing demand for K-12 computer science education (CSed), and the importance of preparing highly qualified preservice teachers who have basic CS knowledge, teacher education faculty play an essential role in CSed capacity building. However, little is known about the best ways for supporting teacher education faculty with the integration of CSed in preservice teacher coursework. To address this challenge, and explore faculty’s CS unde…

  • How Innovative Activities Impact Firm Performances in Latecomer Countries? An Analysis of Five Manufacturing Clusters from Indian Punjab

    Open Access•Swati Mehta, Harmandeep Kaur•ARTICLE•Millennial Asia•2024•References: 6

Firms engage in innovative activities, either to maintain the status quo or to catch up with the front-runners. Innovation is difficult to comprehend as it may include efforts to introduce something ‘new to the world’ or it may include simply the efforts to introduce something ‘new to the firm’. It is equally difficult to comprehend how the clustered firms located in latecomer countries are coping with the fast technological changes happening wit…

  • Modes of Technology Accumulation, Total Factor Productivity and Indian Manufacturing Sector

Open Access•Kawaljeet Kaur, Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Journal of South Asian Development•2023•References: 7

Accumulation of technology has largely been acknowledged as an important factor determining productivity of the manufacturing firms. However, there are different domestic and foreign means of technology spillover that lead to its accumulation leading industry specific technological complexity. In the past, researchers have examined the process of technology accumulated through various channels and also their impact on productivity of the manufact…

  • Liberalisation and Technological Accumulation Strategy in Industries from Developing Economies

    Open Access•Swarnjeet Kaur, Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Millennial Asia•2022•References: 8

Technological accumulation is a complex process of correct mix of indigenous and/or imported technology, mainly for the firms belonging to developing economies after opening their economies. To understand these issues, the case of Indian capital goods industry is taken for the years 1994–1995 to 2015–2016. It was found that only 39% of the firms belonging to Indian capital goods sector are technologically active, that is, resorting to either embo…

  • Feeling and Acting like a Teacher

Open Access•Christy Galletta Horner, Elizabeth Levine Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Teachers College Record The Voice…•2020

Background/Context Empirical research indicates that teachers across ages and academic contexts regularly engage in emotional labor, and this emotional labor contributes to their job satisfaction, teaching effectiveness, burnout, and emotional well-being both within and outside the classroom. However, because the initial research on emotional labor was situated in the service industries (e.g., restaurants, call centers, airlines), researchers hav…

  • Central American Immigrant Mothers' Mental Health in the Context of Illegality

    B L Letiecq, Swati Mehta et al.•ARTICLE•Family & Community Health•2019

Using a community-based participatory research approach, we surveyed 134 undocumented Central American immigrant mothers to examine correlates of maternal mental health. Drawing upon an ecosystemic framework, predictors of depression included structural and familial stressors, parental concerns, and maternal health factors. Mothers' perceptions of child affect, traumatic stress, and general health ratings were among the most salient predictors. H…

  • National Innovation System of India

    Open Access•Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Millennial Asia•2018•References: 5

The present article aims to analyse empirically the national innovation system (NIS) of India. Specifically, the objectives were to (a) examine the different innovation-related input and output variables that reflect the structure of NIS over the years, and (b) examine the factors determining NIS. However, it was very difficult to identify the variables that could reflect the NIS of the country. Individual indicators of innovation, both from inpu…

  • Innovation and Employment

    Open Access•Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Millennial Asia•2016•References: 2

While innovation is widely acclaimed as an important source of productivity and growth, its relationship with employment remained largely ambiguous. The debate assumes importance as the recent past has witnessed economic growth with falling or stagnant employment growth in a large number of countries. The loss of additional employment resulted in widespread inequalities and poverty that put the issue of economic growth in jeopardy. Moreover, ther…

  • Strategies of Technology Accumulation by Indian Pharmaceutical Firms

    Open Access•Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Millennial Asia•2014•References: 7

Driven by technological race, the survival of the firms largely depends upon the technological proximity they possess. Evolutionary theories emphasized that ‘technology’ is a source of growth and its accumulation is a continuous and path-dependent process that require specific and strategic policies. The hypothesis of the article is, thus that ‘both investments in indigenous research and development (R&D) and royalty payments’ are the dominant so…

  • Technology spillovers and productivity

    Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•Innovation and Development•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 7

Endogenous growth theories postulate a positive impact of 'technology spillovers' on productivity that transverse the economic policies, especially of the developing countries towards greater integration. The present paper attempts to examine this relationship by taking the case of Indian manufacturing industries. A panel regression model was framed to examine the impact of indigenous R&D and technology spillovers on productivity. The analysis, h…

  • Structural Transformation and Industrialization

    Open Access•Swati Mehta•ARTICLE•The Journal of Comparative Asian…•2012•References: 5

The present paper attempts to explore the pattern of industrial growth in India since 1980. Both the descriptive and panel regression analysis are done for estimating the results. To ascertain the impact of the 1991 economic reforms in determining the structure of industrial growth, comparative analyses of the pre- (1980–81 to 1991–92) and post-reform periods (1992–93 to 2005–06) were also done. The overall results show that the Indian manufactur…
