Prenatal Maternal Stress, Child Cortical Thickness, and Adolescent Depressive Symptoms
Prenatal maternal stress predicts subsequent elevations in youth depressive symptoms, but the neural processes associated with these links are unclear. This study evaluated whether prenatal maternal stress is associated with child brain development, and adolescent depressive symptoms using a prospective design with 74 mother child pairs (40 boys). Maternal stress was assessed during pregnancy, child cortical thickness at age 7, and depressive sym…
The local distribution of endowments matters
This study expands on the tax competition literature by incorporating the heterogeneity of resource endowments into the tax competition framework. It theoretically elaborates that the local distribution of resource endowments affects both the level of tax rate and the degree of spatial dependence in tax competition, and empirically confirms the theory using the data for 60 urban municipalities in the Seoul metropolitan area (SMA), Korea in the ye…
A western Eurasian male is found in 2000‐year‐old elite Xiongnu cemetery in Northeast Mongolia
We analyzed mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), Y‐chromosome single nucleotide polymorphisms (Y‐SNP), and autosomal short tandem repeats (STR) of three skeletons found in a 2,000‐year‐old Xiongnu elite cemetery in Duurlig Nars of Northeast Mongolia. This study is one of the first reports of the detailed genetic analysis of ancient human remains using the three types of genetic markers. The DNA analyses revealed that one subject was an ancient male skeleto…

Changes of Tight Junction and Epithelial Cells after Treatment of Cadmium
Cadmium (Cd) affects cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and other cellular activities and can cause numerous molecular lesions that would be relevant to carcinogenesis. The mechanism of adverse effects of Cd has been poorly understood and, especially on the tight junction. Since there is rare information about the effect of Cd on tight junction protein, we here investigated whether Cd can alter the localization of the proteins. This s…
Alpha-tocopherol Prevents H2O2-induced Tight Junction Occludin Disruption in Blood-Brain Barrier
Vitamin E is the most important lipid-soluble antioxidant in humans. Although alpha-tocopherol is suggested that it has protective effect from many diseases, little is known about the prevention of occludin alteration in tight junction of blood-brain barrier (BBB) under pathologic insults producing reactive oxygen species (ROSs). In this study, the effects of alpha-tocopherol on H2O2-induced tight junction occludin were studied. Primary culture o…
