Open Access•Inmaculada Antolínez Domínguez, Esperanza Jorge Barbuzano•ARTICLE•Antropología Experimental•2025

The two authors of this paper have been involved in research and social action projects with women in vulnerable situations for over ten years. These women often face various forms of violence, including gender-based aggression, exploitation, trafficking, and disappearance. Using a reflective approach that emphasizes embodied and interdependent experiences, this article examines the potential impact of such violence on ethnographers as they inhab…

  • The Continuum of Violence and Interstices in the Journeys and Bodies of Women on the Move From West Africa

Open Access•Inmaculada Antolínez Domínguez, Esperanza Jorge Barbuzano•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2024•References: 12

On the migration route from Western and Central Africa to Europe, aggression toward women's bodies has played a prominent role. In this study, we analyze this route as a continuum of violence and also study the interstices to confront it. Using a biographical narrative methodology, we analyze the narratives of 52 migrant women, through life stories or creative narrative workshops carried out in Mali, Morocco, and Spain. The results allow us to sy…

Open Access•Inmaculada Antolínez-Domínguez, Inmaculada Antolínez Domínguez et al.•ARTICLE•Annual of Social Work•2021

In the 1980s, the Southern Frontier of Spain became one of the southern borders of the European Union after Spain entered into the European Economic Community (EEC). On the African continent, the Spanish cities of Ceuta and Melilla that border with Morocco are physically separated from Spain by the Mediterranean Sea. Those two cities became a privileged enclave for immigration control, but also for the detection of vulnerable conditions of the mi…

  • Attitudes towards immigration at the regional level in Europe in times of crisis

Open Access•Javier Álvarez-Gálvez, Javier Álvarez Galvez et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Fomento Social•2021

At the aftermath of the 2008 financial and socio–economic crisis, there had been a boom of nationalist parties in Europe that included anti–immigration measures in their programs. In this study, we analyse the relationship between socioeconomic status and anti–immigrant sentiment at the regional level by using geographically weighted regression. In doing so we use data from the fist years of the financial crisis, when most of European countries w…

  • Towards Inclusion in Spanish Higher Education: Understanding the Relationship between Identification and Discrimination

Open Access•María Beatriz Gallego Noche, Cristina Goenechea et al.•ARTICLE•Social Inclusion•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 6

It is more and more evident that there is diversity among university students, but this diversity encompasses a wide variety of personal characteristics that, on occasion, may be subject to rejection or discrimination. The feeling of inequality is the result of one stand‐alone characteristic or an intersection of many. To widen our knowledge of this diversity and to be able to design actions with an inclusive approach, we have set out to explore …

  • Cartography of damages and resistance: Migratory route of young women from West Africa to Europe

Esperanza Jorge Barbuzano, Inmaculada Antolínez Domínguez•ARTICLE•Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy•2020

The West African overland route to Europe has been linked to human trafficking. Along the migratory journey (which can last for years) young women experience serious episodes of violence, coercion, sale, and disappearance. Once at destination, they have to pay a very high debt (between 25,000 and 60,000 euros according to our field data) in conditions of exploitation, mainly sexual, but also labor. The silencing of women (narrative and bodily) is…
