In April 2008, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) issued new guidelines for Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The 2008 EPAS shift the focus of assessment from the evaluation of program objectives to assessment of educational outcomes and student achievement of practice competencies. Judith Bremner, Charles Zastrow•ARTICLE•Journal of Teaching in Social Work•2008•Cited by: 2

A 2004 national survey of CSWE-accredited MSW programs addresses three major questions. The results of studies which examined the performance of advanced standing versus t…

A model for sequencing the tasks is presented, and a field placement evaluation instrument is highlighted in assessing the extent to which students are attaining the program objectives. Programs need to utilize multiple measures of program outcomes

  • The Social Work Approach to Juvenile Delinquency in the United States

    Charles Zastrow•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993

The history of the social work approach to juvenile delinquency is summarized, and current problems in using a treatment approach in the juvenile justice system are described. A treatment approach appears more successful in preventing recidivism than a punitive approach

  • How to Rehabilitate Criminal Offenders

    Charles Zastrow•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1988

It is asserted that all behavior is primarily derived from cognitions (thinking patterns). If this assertion is accurate, it follows that criminal behavior results from cognitions related to the planning, execution and justification by offenders of criminal activity. It also follows that the focus of rehabilitative efforts should be on changing the cognitions that led to criminal activity so that offenders develop cognitions that focus on the adv…

  • Self-Talk

Charles Zastrow, Ralph Navarre•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1979

A new theory on the causes of criminal behavior is presented in which the authors assert that the reasons for any criminal act can be determined by identifying what the offender was telling him/herself prior to and during the time when the crime was committed. This theory has direct rehabilitative implications as the authors assert that the only way to curb future criminal activity is to change the underlying self-talk of the offender
