This study drew on the perspectives of retired professional ballet dancers to address this question. We conducted narrative interviews with nine retired professional ballet dancers and identified four themes using thematic analysi…
How satisfied are siblings of homicide victims with police
Police personnel and services may have a tremendous impact on the psychological well-being of siblings who become victims of the murder of a brother or sister. The current study helps correct this paucity of research by studying a sample of 67 siblings aged 6–40 ( M = 20.4) years when a sibling was murdered. Satisfaction with police contact and se…

Hearing child dyads scored higher on joint attention during unstructured tasks, especially in their home environment. Hearing child dya…

Anecdotal report and a scant literature suggest homicide has lasting effects on the health and well-being of siblings of homicide victims. However, sample and other methodological problems make it difficult to claim these effects. It also makes it difficult to attribute these effects to a sibling’s homicide versus other distressing life events. We compared 67 siblings of homicide victims with 80 comparison siblings on aspects of general health an…

The “dual usage problem” in the explanations of “joint attention” and children’s socioemotional development
Acquired Brain Injury
The purpose of this article is to extend the findings of a research project independent of this article but from which this article arises. More specifically, this article examines the lived experience of a major life event from the perspective of the individual: How is meaning brought to such an event? To address theoretical and professional issues related to the meaning-making process of a brain injury experience, narrative data was collected o…
