Longitudinal trajectories of children’s peer play interactions and their predictors
This study investigates the longitudinal trajectories of children’s peer play interactions and their predictors, including teacher variables (teacher efficacy, teacher–child interactions, classroom environment) and child individual variables (temperament, gender), and their effects on children’s externalizing behaviors. The data were drawn from the fourth to seventh waves of the Panel Study on Korean Children conducted by the Korea Institute of C…
Exploring public perceptions of generative AI and education
This study aims to investigate the public’s perceptions regarding the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) in education by analysing comments on YouTube news clips. The study collected public comments from YouTube news clips disseminated by three prominent broadcasters in South Korea between December 2022 and June 2023. Two dimensions of public perceptions were examined: sentiments and prevalent topics. Employing machine learning techniques, we c…
Maternal and paternal parenting stress and children's aggression and anxiety/depression
I examined whether maternal and/or paternal parenting stress predicted children's aggression and anxiety/depression, and whether this parenting stress interacted with children's self-regulation in the prediction of their aggression and anxiety/depression. Data were obtained from the 7th wave of longitudinal data of the Panel Study on Korean Children. Results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis demonstrate that both maternal and paternal …
Patterns of Paternal Involvement of Korean Fathers
Given roles and expectations of father involvement in South Korea are in transition from traditional breadwinner to an involved caregiver to children, it is plausible that Korean fathers show diverse involvement behaviors in the contexts of work, family, and parenting. Using a person-centered approach, we explored if there were groupings of Korean fathers who could be identified from their involvement with their children. We also examined if thos…
Holocene hydroclimate reconstruction based on pollen, XRF, and grain-size analyses and its implications for past societies of the Korean Peninsula
The dynamics of the East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) and their link to past societies during the Holocene are topics of growing interest. In this study, we present results of pollen, geochemistry, and grain-size analyses from the STP18-03 core sampled from Miryang in the Korean Peninsula, which spans ca. 8.3–2.3 ka BP. In-phase relationships of these proxies revealed an imprint of the Holocene Climate Optimum (HCO) during the early to mid-Holocen…
Early Childhood Professional Well-Being as a Predictor of the Risk of Turnover in Child Care
Annually, approximately 27% of early childhood care and education professionals turnover, or leave their positions or the field, which may negatively impact quality in two ways. First, continuity is disrupted when teachers leave, severing important relationship bonds among teachers, children, and families. Second, professionals who are considering leaving may be unhappy and distracted, which may impact their capacity to care mindfully and appropr…
The Future of Work in Africa
The Future of Work in Africa focuses on the key themes of creating productive jobs and addressing the needs of those left behind. It highlights how global trends, especially the adoption of digital technologies, may change the nature of work in Sub-Saharan Africa by creating new opportunities and challenges. It argues that, contrary to global fears of worker displacement by new technologies, African countries can develop an inclusive future of wo…
Pretend Play and Social Competence in Peer Play Groups of Five-Year-Old Boys and Girls
We examined the associations among different types of pretend play in peer play groups, as well as the associations between pretend play with peer play groups and children's social competence. Participants were 87 Korean preschool students (42 boys, 45 girls). We observed the participants' pretend play with same-gender, opposite-gender, and mixed-gender peers, and both teachers and peers provided assessments of the children's social competence. A…
The Influence of Purchasing Context and Reversibility of Choice on Consumer Responses Toward Personalized Products and Standardized Products
Existing research on personalization has found that consumers generally prefer personalized products over standardized ones. This study argued that consumer preference for personalized products is dependent on purchasing context and reversibility of choice. Results of an experiment conducted in this study found that consumers preferred personalized products when purchasing an item for personal use but preferred standardized products when purchasi…
Understanding Northeast Asian regional dynamics
Northeast Asia has emerged as the center of gravity in contemporary international relations (IR), partly owing to China's rise, over the past two decades. In understanding regional dynamics in Northeast Asia, the (neo-) realist perspective has been dominant. Despite its rich analytical and empirical contribution, however, preoccupation with power and its distribution, blurred geographic focus, and built-in status quo bias have prevented the exist…

Patterns of Paternal Involvement of Korean Fathers
