    Universities in North America were sculpted by corporate capital via philanthrocapitalist foundations in the late 1880s. The Rockefeller, Ford, and Carnegie foundations were particularly important to this process which aimed to coordinate the work of universities in the service of the economic needs of the capitalist nation state.     In two experiments, we examined the perceived controllability and stability of the causes of 10 stigmas. Guided by attribution theory, we also ascertained the affective reactions of pity and anger, helping judgments, and the efficacy of five intervention techniques.
