  • Amalgamating Urban Scaling and Economic Complexity for New Metrics of Urban Fitness

    Open Access•Anand Sahasranaman, Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2024•References: 4

We propose a synthesis of the independent scientific frameworks of economic complexity and urban scaling into a consistent mechanism— city complexity —to measure multi-dimensional fitness of cities. Essentially, we use deviations from scaling law for a given set of urban outcomes as the basis to construct a bipartite city-outcome matrix. This matrix forms the input into the economic complexity methodology, which iterates over a pair of coupled no…

  • Weber and Durkheim

Henrik Jensen, Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen•BOOK•Weber and Durkheim•2012•Cited by: 8

Weber and Durkheim: A methodological comparison is a systematic, comparative analysis of the methodologies of Max Weber and Émile Durkheim. Jensen shows how Weber and Durkheim analyse Protestants and Catholics in practice in The Protestant Ethic and Suicide, respectively. The very different ways that Weber and Durkheim carry out their analyses are then used to describe, analyse and contrast their methodological principles and points of view, rais…

  • Mathematics and painting

    Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•2002

Mathematics and painting are interrelated in many ways. At a technical level mathematics can be used to enhance our appreciation of paintings. This was recently demonstrated beautifully by Taylor, Micolich, and Jones in their analysis of Jackson Pollock's drip paintings, which led them to the conclusion that Pollock's paintings are in a way figurative pictures. Relations also exist at a more basic level. Painting and mathematics can share subject…
