  • How Does Qualitative Research Secure Social Scientific Value

    Ji-Won Lee, Ji‐won Lee•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Sociology•2025

Using ideology-in-pieces framework (Philip, 2011), TEs' complex sensemaking and their enactments are an…

  • A Rolling Panel Model of Cohort, Period, and Aging Effects for the Analysis of the General Social Survey

    Open Access•Stephen L Morgan, Jiwon Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 45

The linear dependence of age, period, and birth cohort is a challenge for the analysis of social change. With either repeated cross-sectional data or conventional panel data, raw change cannot be decomposed into over-time differences that are attributable to the effects of common experiences of alternative birth cohorts, features of the periods under observation, and the cumulation of lifecourse aging. This article proposes a rolling panel model …

  • Innocent Comrades or Blameworthy Foreigners

    Open Access•Ji-Won Lee, Ji‐won Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Inquiry•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 41

Drawing on ethnic boundary-making literature, this study investigates how Korean newspapers and readers adjusted their ethnic boundaries towards Asian migrants in response to the evolving phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. We analyzed the extent and nature of coverage in five major newspapers on anti-Asian racism in the US published between January 1 and May 24, 2020, along with associated reader comments. During the maintenance phase, marked by pe…

Open Access•Jung Won Shin, Yong Hun Chi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of People, Plants, and…•2022

Background and objective: Kirengeshoma koreana Nakai is an endemic and endangered species in South Korea. We conducted in vitro propagation and regeneration of K. koreana from stem cuttings to investigate the effects of nine different basal culture media and five different carbohydrate sources on its growth. Methods: Apical segments (at least 1 cm long) collected randomly from a six-week-old K. koreana plantlet grown in vitro were used as explants…

  • Effect of Walking Steps Measured by a Wearable Activity Tracker on Improving Components of Metabolic Syndrome

Open Access•Jae Min Park, Ja‐Eun Choi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

We compared the improvement in components of metabolic syndrome (MS) before and after lifestyle modification, as determined by daily step counts (on a wrist-worn Fitbit®) in participants with and without MS recruited from volunteers attending medical health checkup programs. A linear mixed model was used to analyze the change in MS components between participants with and without MS by group × time interaction. Multiple logistic regression analys…

  • Paternal Influence on the Developmental Pathways of Maternal Parenting Stress, Home Learning Stimulation, and Children’s Social Skills in the U.S. and Korea

Jaehee Kim, Jiwon Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Family…•2021

To increase the specificity in paternal influence as the importance caregiving context on mothers and children, we aimed to test 1) whether the mediation effect of maternal parenting stress at age 3 on children’s social skills at age 9 via home learning stimulation at age 5 was significant; 2) whether this mediation effect varied according to paternal involvement and depression at age 3; and 3) whether this proposed path was culturally generaliza…

  • Dose-Response Relationship between Night Work and the Prevalence of Impaired Fasting Glucose

Open Access•Jae Yong Lee, Ji‐won Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Many studies have been conducted regarding the association between night work and diabetes, but the association between impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and night work is still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate this association using the Special Health Examination (SHEW) for Korean night workers. Laboratory, questionnaire, and physical examination data were collected for 80,077 manual workers between 2014 and 2016 from Korea Medical In…

  • Dose-Dependent Toxic Effect of Cotinine-Verified Tobacco Smoking on Systemic Inflammation in Apparently Healthy Men and Women

    Open Access•Won‐Jun Choi, Won-Jun Choi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Chronic exposure to tobacco smoke leads to chronic low-grade systemic inflammation; however, little is known about the dose-dependent toxic effect of objective tobacco smoking on systemic inflammation. We examined the dose-dependent toxic effect of cotinine-verified tobacco smoking on leukocyte count in a representative sample of Korean adults, including 8655 men and 10,432 women aged 19−65 years from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Exam…

We conducted a case-controlled study involving 1241 CRC patients and 5909 cancer-free controls from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. After propensity score (PS) matching, 1207 CRC patients…
