  • The Securitization of the European Migrant Crisis - Evidence From Bulgaria and Hungary (2015-2017)

    Open Access•Tatiana P Rizova•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 2

Conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria over the past fifteen years have produced the largest waves of displaced people and refugees since World War II. As European Union (EU) leaders braced for an influx of thousands of people fleeing from these conflicts, they faced pressures to revisit and modify legal rules that left countries in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean unable to cope with a crisis of unprecedented proportions in the twent…

  • Legislative Candidate Selection in the Hungarian and Lithuanian Communist Successor Parties

    Open Access•Tatiana P Rizova•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2012•References: 14

Instrumentalism and Lake and Rothchild’s ‘strategic dilemma’ approach provide important insights in explaining violence in Ma…

  • Presidential Conditional Agenda Setting in the Former Communist Countries

    Open Access•George Tsebelis, Tatiana P Rizova•ARTICLE•Comparative Political Studies•2007•Cited by: 10•References: 17

Nine out of 27 presidents in the former communist world have the power to amend vetoed legislation. These presidential powers in the former Soviet Bloc have not been given adequate attention in the comparative politics literature. The authors analyze veto procedures in the excommunist region (27 countries) and argue that amendatory veto power enhances presidential powers in legislative decision making. The findings are particularly important in l…
