Land as a discretionary extra-budgetary revenue tool
This article conceptualizes the Land Reserve System (LRS) as an institutional fiscal instrument through which Chinese local governments transform land into discretionary extra-budgetary revenue under post tax-sharing fiscal pressures. Leveraging a panel of 218 prefecture-level cities (1999–2013), we assess whether and how LRS adoption restructures local fiscal revenue composition. The empirical strategy combines a Difference-in-Differences framew…
Digital literacy, social interaction, and relative poverty in Chinese households
This study investigates the impact of digital literacy and social interaction on relative poverty among Chinese households, based on the 2020 and 2022 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data. Through robust econometric analysis, including quantile regression models and threshold quantile regression models, we examine the direct effects and threshold effects of digital literacy, social interaction on household relative poverty. Our research conside…
Can territorial cooperation improve regional development? Evidence from Zhejiang’s Mountain-Sea Cooperation
Territorial cooperation is a key institutional tool to foster regional development. This study examines the causal effects of the Mountain-Sea Cooperation Project in China’s Zhejiang Province. Using 2010–2019 panel data and a difference-in-differences estimator, the paper measures the programme’s causal impact on inter-county investment flows and economic development. The results reveal a dual effect. We find that the policy increased investment …

The Impact of Air Pollution Perception on Urban Settlement Intentions of Young Talent in China
In recent years, with the public paying more and more attention to the problem of air pollution, the impact of air quality on migration has gradually become a growing concern. Based on the theory of planned behavior and from the perspective of subjective…

Characterization of Chromosome-Mediated BlaOXA-894 in Shewanella xiamenensis Isolated from Pig Wastewater
A new variant of the bla OXA-546 gene, namely bla OXA-894 , was identified on the chromosome of Shewanella xiamenensis isolated from pig wastewater in rural China. OXA-894 differs from OXA-546 (A46V, I219 del ) and OXA-48 (T167I, I219 del ) with two amino acid substitutions, respectively. The isolate was resistant to ampicillin, aztreonam, imipenem, meropenem and fosfomycin. Carba NP test confirmed S. xiamenensis strain sx20 as a carbapenemase-pr…
