  • Medieval nanotechnology: Thickness determination of Zwischgold samples

Open Access•Q Wu, Benjamin Watts et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 11

A special gilding material called Zwischgold has been frequently observed in medieval gilded artefacts. As a bilayer metal leaf made from gold and silver, it exhibits similar but slightly paler golden colour tone compared to pure gold. Zwischgold surface can be darkened quickly due to the corrosion of its silver base. Despite its frequent mentions in medieval guild statutes, the production of Zwischgold and its important technological parameters …

  • Investigation of the foil structure and corrosion mechanisms of modern Zwischgold using advanced analysis techniques

Open Access•Qing Wu, Karolina Soppa et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Zwischgold is a two-sided metal foil made by adhering a gold leaf over a silver leaf to present a gold surface while using less gold than gold foils. Corroded Zwischgold surfaces appear dark, accompanied by gloss loss and possible mechanical stability issues. Zwischgold applied artefacts are commonly found in museums and churches across Europe and they currently face an uncertain future as conservators have little knowledge to base conservation t…

  • Orthography and the Perception of Stops After S

    Open Access•R Fink•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1974•Cited by: 2•References: 6

Stimuli containing voiced or voiceless stops occurring after [s] were presented in the form of a spelling test to child and adult subjects. Responses indicate that the child's perceptual categorization of these phones undergoes a change during his internalization of the rules of English orthography, i.e. at the age of 7 or 8. Results also suggest that the value of the feature of voicing assigned to these stops may not be the same for all places o…
