  • Associations between daily parent–teacher communication, child’s problem behavior, and parent–child relationship mediated by parental self-efficacy

Open Access•Keiko K Fujisawa, Keiko Nozaki et al.•ARTICLE•Early Childhood Research Quarterly•2025

  • The impact of urban redevelopment for mitigating earthquake damage risk on land values

Open Access•Mizuki Kawabata, Michio Naoi et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Science and Urban…•2025

We examine the impact of urban redevelopment for mitigating earthquake damage risk on land values using a spatial regression discontinuity (RD) design. Our analysis exploits the risk discontinuity at the boundaries of dense urban districts with extremely high earthquake damage risk (high-risk DUDs) in Tokyo, using data on high-risk DUDs in 2012, 2017, and 2020. The cross-sectional RD estimates demonstrate that land values are consistently higher …

  • The Impact of Daycare Closures Owing to Covid-19 on Parental Stress

Open Access•Tsubasa Ito, Michio Naoi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family and Economic…•2024

The purpose of this study is to quantify the effect of the closure of daycare facilities during the early stage of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on the stress of parents with preschool children. Using household panel data collected before and after the pandemic, we estimated difference-in-differences models and their extensions. Our empirical results show that the closure of daycare facilities significantly worsened parental stress as mea…

  • Natural hazard information and migration across cities

Open Access•Michio Naoi, Keiichi Sato et al.•ARTICLE•Population and Environment•2020•References: 27

This paper examines the effects of the 2012 revisions to the damage predictions of an anticipated Nankai Trough megathrust earthquake on subsequent inter-municipality migration in Japan’s coastal areas. We find that an increase in predicted tsunami height—rather than anticipated seismic movements—after the 2012 revision is associated with a subsequent reduction in net migration. While the reducing effect of tsunami predictions on in-migration per…
