  • Mortality salience

    Ramona D Letzner, Cătălin Nedelcea et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2026•References: 5

Terror Management Theory (TMT) proposes that awareness of one's mortality can trigger emotional distress and amplify symptoms in vulnerable individuals when protective buffers are weakened. However, doubts about replicability and methodological rigor have grown. We conducted a multivariate three-level meta-analysis examining mortality salience effects on clinically relevant outcomes, synthesizing 61 outcomes from 22 randomized controlled trials (…

We employed Q methodology to explore what is prioritized in psychotherapy based on psychotherapeutic approach, as well as individual differences. We recr…

  • Caregiving burden and relationship satisfaction in couples

Ana M Toma, Cătălin Nedelcea•ARTICLE•International Journal of Care and…•2025

This meta-analysis examines the link between caregiver burden and relationship satisfaction in romantic caregivers across 19 studies. Results show a significant negative correlation ( r = –.38), indicating that greater caregiving burden leads to lower relationship satisfaction. The effect was strongest for caregivers of partners with mental disorders, followed by cancer and neurodegenerative conditions. These findings highlight the impact of care…

  • Interventions for professional trauma caregivers

Ana-Maria Chira, Cătălin Nedelcea et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2024

The current findings support that all interventions are adequate and outperform control groups. Based on the literature review that was made before the onset of this meta-analysis, there seems to be no other study realized in such an exhaustive format. The implications predominantly target practitioners in how to approach professional trauma caregivers who seek treatment. Future research should further investigate this population as a whole and c…

  • Factors impacting the experience of empathic distress in social anxiety

Ana Cosmoiu, Cătălin Nedelcea•ARTICLE•The Journal of Social Psychology•2022

Personal distress is a manifestation of empathy characterized by a tendency to respond to others' difficulties by increasing one's distress. Previous work on socially anxious individuals has shown mixed results, consistent with a model of social anxiety symptomatology characterized by increased personal distress in empathy eliciting situations, which is driven by emotional dysregulation. The current study aimed to test a serial mediation model to…
