This study shows that FIFO workers are confronted with rea…

Psychological, Physical and Behavioral Health of Adults, 3 Years After Exposure to a Train Derailment
In July 2013, a train derailment profoundly disrupted the tranquility of the population of Lac-Mégantic for months and even years. In 2016, we conducted a representative population-based survey among 387 people from Lac-Mégantic and 413 from other municipalities with the aim to document psychological and physical health of adults exposed to the disaster. This article examines differences between 3 groups of respondents: those who were highly, mod…

The median HIV-KQ-18 score for the sample was 14.0, which Carey and Schroder classify as indicating borderline low levels of knowledge. Based on the results, the authors argue tha…
Impacts of Environmental Changes on Well-Being in Indigenous Communities in Eastern Canada
Climate change and natural resource exploitation can affect Indigenous people's well-being by reducing access to ecosystem services, in turn impeding transmission of traditional knowledge and causing mental health problems. We used a questionnaire based on the Environmental Distress Scale (EDS) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10) to examine the impacts of environmental changes on 251 members of four Indigenous communities in the…

Until recently, few studies have examined the realities of men who choose to pursue careers in professions viewed as ‘feminine’. Adopting a qualitative approach, the article seeks to broaden the current state of knowledge on this issue by examining the realities of thirteen male students enrolled in social work at a Chilean university. The respondents participated in individual interviews conducted during the winter semesters of 2014 and 2015. Sp…
Social representations of HIV/Aids in mass media
This article provides an overview of published studies on social representations of HIV/AIDS. It argues that, despite changes over time in the peripheral elements of negative social representations, such representations remain present within the health care field and continue to affect populations across various cultures. This underlines the importance of health care that accounts for cultural needs in interventions with people living with HIV/AI…
