Before Imperfections Escalate: How Inoculation Warnings by Service Robots Shape Customer Responses to Minor Service Imperfections
The impact of destination image, perceived value, and psychological well-being on domestic tourists’ behavioural intentions
This research investigates the impact of destination image, perceived value, and psychological well-being on domestic tourists’ behavioural intentions, integrating direct, mediated, and serially mediated effects into a unified framework. The study employed the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory and adopted a quantitative research design using statistical methods for data analysis. Da Nang, a coastal tourism city in central Vietnam, served …
A Cross-Cultural Research on Natural Tourists’ Behavioral Intentions
Comparative research on park patrons with distinctive cultures or ethnicities has been one line of cross-cultural research in the recreation field in recent decades. The critical issue for such research is between-group homogeneity as most cross-cultural studies use culture or nation as their unit of analysis. This study employed the between-group comparison approach to identify different perceptions of service quality among three major socio-cul…
Examining the dimensionality of values for culturally diverse customers in parks and recreation
The purpose of this study was to examine the dimensionality and usefulness of Hofstede's measure of values and Kahle's List of Values (LOV) in the context of parks and recreation. Parks and recreation areas around the world increasingly serve as international visitor attractions and play an important role in the international tourism industry. Since values presumably differ among members of different cultures and purportedly influence people's pe…

Services for Culturally Diverse Customers in Parks and Recreation
Changes in racial and ethnic composition due to the increasing diversity in the United States are confronting managers of parks and recreation areas. Since cultural values influence perceptions and behaviors, studying cultural values among different groups is important for understanding perceptions of service quality and parks and recreation behavior. The purpose of this essay is to advocate the exploration of the relationship of cultural values …
The Effects of Specialization and Gender on Motivations and Preferences for Site Attributes in Paddling
Few empirical studies have examined the relationships between specialization level, gender, motivations, and preferred environmental setting. The purpose of our study was to examine the influence of specialization and gender on motivations and preferences for site attributes among canoeists. Subjects consisted of 663 canoeists from 11 paddling organizations. Results showed that high specialists differed from low specialists in the rated importanc…
Ethnicity as a Variable in Leisure Research
The purpose of this study is to examine the usefulness of ethnicity as a construct in leisure research. In particular, we are interested in the degree to which presumed ethnic groups exhibit internal cultural homogeneity. In 2002, the visitors to the Angeles National Forest (ANF) near metropolitan Los Angeles were surveyed. Using purposive sampling at sites known to be heavily used by visitors with diverse ethnic backgrounds, we obtained a sample…
Ethnicity as a Construct in Leisure Research: A Rejoinder to Gobster
Gobster addresses several issues in our paper. These include, first, a suggestion that the measure of cultural values that we used is not appropriate for understanding possible variations in racial and ethnic patterns of' outdoor leisure preferences and behavior. He claims, as well, that we limit our use of ethnicity to alleged cultural differences among groups and, specifically, to cultural values, unlike what most leisure researchers have done.…
A Cross-Regional Comparison of Recreation Patterns of Older Hunters
We studied outdoor recreation patterns among older hunting license holders in Pennsylvania and Colorado to better understand aspects of five trends that promise to impact outdoor recreation preferences, behavior, and management priorities: Sunbelt population growth, declining residential stability, urbanization, aging, and increasing levels of formal education. Results of our mail survey showed that the samples were similar in age, gender, and et…
