    Open Access•Charles Crabtree, Jeong-Woo Koo et al.•ARTICLE•Political Research Quarterly•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 60

What factors shape support for the human rights of prisoners and asylum seekers at the individual level? Although the human rights literature has expanded greatly in the last 30 years, comparatively little attention has been paid to (a) the many human rights outside of a very small set of physical or bodily integrity rights and (b) the role of public opinion. We build a theoretical model of various human rights as public opinion-related policy ch…

Do initiatives to limit nongovernmental organization (NGO) activities work to limit terrorist attacks? Despite regime rhetoric, we argue that NGO restrictions and repression can heighten grievances and limit nonviolent options for citizens to express dissent, broadening support for terrorists and increasing terrorist incidents. Using novel data on NGO restrictions, we fail to find evidence that legal restrictions on NGOs reduce the number of terr…

  • Political Embeddedness or World Cultural Pressure? Explaining Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting in China, 2006–2020 1

    Open Access•Dae‐Wook Kim, Jeong‐woo Koo•ARTICLE•Sociological Forum•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 10

How do organizations respond to institutional complexity arising out of both domestic and global forces? We focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting in China and empirically test the effects of both domestic institutional connections and world cultural linkage. We analyze the adoption of CSR reports compiled by 3,757 listed firms in China from 2006 to 2020 via a discrete‐time event history framework. We seek to explain the adoptio…

  • Diverse Paths to CSR in Game Industry

Daewook Kim, Dae-Wook Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Sociology•2021

  • An Analysis on the Factors affecting people’s attitude toward conscientious objection to military service

Jin Won Chung, Jeong-Woo Koo et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Sociology•2021

Daewook Kim, Dae-Wook Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Sociology•2020

Immigration poses a dilemma for host states. Embracing international migrants contributes to economic prosperity and enhances the national reputation as a guardian of human rights, while simultaneously triggering security concerns. How can a migrant-receiving state address this dilemma? Using the case of the Employment Permit System (EPS) enacted in South Korea in 2003, which was the first law to protect the basic rights of foreign workers, this …

During this period, the Confucian literati emerged as the new public and challenged royal authority, engaging in a broad range of public activities through the academies and petitions.
