  • Creativity Under Stress at Work

Shengjie Lin, Zorana Ivcevic et al.•ARTICLE•Creativity Research Journal•2025

Work exposes people to different kinds of stressors and provides different resources. Building on the job demands-resources theory (JD-R), the current study examined intrapersonal patterns of job stressors (challenge and hindrance demands) and personal and job resources (i.e. passion and voice) and their relationship with creativity outcomes (creative self-efficacy and creative behavior) in a sample of hospital workers (N = 5,066). Latent profile…

  • Individualism and Collectivism as Predictors of Creative Potentials and Real-Life Creativity in China and US

Jiajun Guo, Yi Jiang et al.•ARTICLE•Creativity Research Journal•2025

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationships between culture and creativity from the perspective of individualism and collectivism (I/C). Specifically, we compared cultural differences in I/C as well as creativity between two major economies, namely China and the US. We also examined how specific dimensions of I/C are associated with indices of creativity in these two cultural contexts. Four hundred and thirty-four Chinese…

Open Access•Guan Saw, Shengjie Lin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Science…•2025•References: 131

Gender differences in creative thinking competency, career interest, and situated expectancy‐value beliefs in STEM, have been widely studied separately. • Curious and Persistent, but not Consistent

Open Access•Shengjie Lin, Zorana Ivcevic et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Creative Behavior•2025•Cited by: 3•References: 103

The present study examines two self‐regulation traits, grit and curiosity, in predicting creative achievement in an adult sample ( N = 522). Grit has been related to achievement in various domains, and although prior empirical work failed to find associations with everyday creative activities in adolescent and young adult samples, theoretically it is relevant to long‐term creative achievement (which requires persistence). Curiosity supports creat…

  • Creative Potential and Creative Self‐Belief

Open Access•Yawei Guo, Shengjie Lin et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Creative Behavior•2024

Cross‐cultural studies on creativity, mainly focusing on the creative potential aspect (e.g., divergent thinking), are emerging in recent years. However, the creative self‐belief (e.g., creative self‐efficacy) aspect of creativity is under‐researched cross‐culturally. Moreover, studies that address the measurement invariance of creativity assessments to ensure the measures' sound psychometric properties cross‐culturally are rare. Thus, we aimed t…

  • Family context of mindset matters

Shengjie Lin, Katherine Muenks•ARTICLE•Applied Developmental Science•2024

Mindsets are defined as people’s beliefs about the nature of intelligence, and previous research has found effects of students’ mindsets on their academic outcomes. In the present study, we bring together two recent lines of mindset research: research that has demonstrated that the mindset contexts that surround students matter above and beyond students’ own mindsets; and research that has demonstrated the importance of parents’ mindsets on stude…

  • Divergent Thinking and Evaluative Skill

Open Access•Yawei Guo, Shengjie Lin et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Creative Behavior•2022

Evaluative skill, the ability to accurately assess ideas in terms of originality or creativity, is a critical component of creativity. It involves discarding bad ideas and discerning ideas that are worthwhile to pursue. In light of the growing research on the association between individuals’ evaluative skill and divergent thinking (DT), a research synthesis is needed to clarify discrepant results. Therefore, we examined the relationship between D…

345 and 210, respectively). Results from Studies 2 and 3 consistently showed that, contrary to the stereotype, Chinese only children reported lower levels of loneliness than their counterparts with siblings. Additionally, open-ended responses from the adolescent participants in Study 3 provided hints about the situations that provoke their loneliness. The results are explained in terms of the two theoretical approaches to loneliness. In sum, our …
