  • A New Fourfold Taxonomy of Science-Religion Relations

Andrew Loke, Andrew Ter Ern Loke•ARTICLE•Theology and Science•2023

Despite various criticisms and alternative proposals, Barbour’s fourfold taxonomy has continued to serve as an intuitive introduction to Science-Religion relations. I offer a new fourfold taxonomy—called the Four “C”s Taxonomy: Conflict, Compartmentalization, Conversation, and Convergence—which improves upon the pedagogical advantages of Barbour’s taxonomy, and which avoids the weaknesses of alternative taxonomies. In addition, the new taxonomy a…

  • No heartbreak at Hilbert's Hotel

Open Access•Andrew Loke, Andrew Ter Ern Loke•ARTICLE•Religious Studies•2014

In his article, ‘Heartbreak at Hilbert's Hotel’, Landon Hedrick argues that the ‘Hilbert's Hotel Argument’ (HHA) proposed by William Lane Craig is ineffective against proponents of presentism, who include Craig himself. I show that there is no heartbreak if the Hotel and persons are constructed and generated in a certain way: there exists a ‘hotel room builder’ and a ‘customer generator’, they have been building hotel rooms and generating custome…

  • Solving a paradox against concrete-composite Christology

Open Access•Andrew Loke, Andrew Ter Ern Loke•ARTICLE•Religious Studies•2011

A paradox adapted from the well-known ‘paradox of increase’ has been formulated against composite Christology in recent literature. I argue that concrete-composite Christologists can reply by denying the premise that the pre-incarnate divine nature=the Second Person of the Trinity. This denial can be made by modifying a hylomorphic theory of individuals. Using an analogy from material coinciding objects, this modified theory provides an illuminat…

  • Divine omnipotence and moral perfection

Open Access•Andrew Loke, Andrew Ter Ern Loke•ARTICLE•Religious Studies•2010

Divine omnipotence entails that God can choose to do evil (even though He will not) by taking up a human nature. In showing others by way of example how temptations are to be overcome, His exposure to evil desires in such circumstances is consistent with moral perfection. The view that ‘God has the greatest power and is morally perfect simpliciter ’, is religiously more adequate than ‘God has great power and is essentially morally perfect’. The e…
