  • Hippocampal Atrophy in Persons With Age-Associated Memory Impairment

    Michael S Mega, Gary W Small et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2002

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to demonstrate the assessment of hippocampal atrophy within a standard brain atlas for persons with age-associated memory impairment (AAMI) compared with cognitively intact elderly. METHODS: High-resolution three-dimensional (3D) brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed on 20 nondemented persons: 10 had AAMI and 10 were normal elderly. Scans were aligned to a common atlas template to control f…

  • The Neuropsychiatric Inventory

    Open Access•Jason L Cummings, Michael S Mega et al.•ARTICLE•Neurology•1994

We developed a new instrument, the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), to assess 10 behavioral disturbances occurring in dementia patients: delusions, hallucinations, dysphoria, anxiety, agitation/aggression, euphoria, disinhibition, irritability/lability, apathy, and aberrant motor activity. The NPI uses a screening strategy to minimize administration time, examining and scoring only those behavioral domains with positive responses to screening qu…
