  • Black and green: How electoral outcomes influence provincial circular economy performance in Italy

    Open Access•Giuseppe Celi, Vincenzo D′Atteo et al.•ARTICLE•Economia Politica•2026

Italy’s territorial disparities—most prominently the north–south divide—reflect broader European challenges, highlighting the difficulty of reconciling environmental sustainability with economic cohesion in an era of increasing political volatility. While northern provinces leverage robust infrastructure and global value chain integration to drive industrial innovation, southern provinces face persistent unemployment, skilled worker outmigration,…

  • Towards policy Mixes Formulation to Support Green Transitions in Rural Areas: A methodological Approach

    Open Access•Naomi di Santo, Mina Yazdani et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Rural areas are crucial for green transitions, due to their resource‐based economies and extensive scope, covering over 80% of EU territory and housing 30% of the population. Achieving sustainability in rural areas is complex, given the multiple socio‐stechnical factors involved. This highlights the need for a comprehensive ‘policy mix’ that goes beyond myopic decisions focused on isolated issues and instead embraces a long‐term perspective on re…

  • Uncovering network changes in the evolution of an innovation niche

    Open Access•Emanuele Sica, P M Falcone et al.•ARTICLE•Social Networks•2025•References: 20

The present paper aims at unravelling the networking dynamics regarding the evolution of an innovation-niche, by looking at its network configuration over time. To this end, we investigate the actors’ role within the network as well as the network architecture. We employ the social network analysis (SNA) to four different but interrelated types of networks characterising the Italian biofuel industry. Each network was investigated in both its deve…

  • Globalization and internal migration: Evidence from inter-provincial mobility in Vietnam

    Open Access•Giuseppe Celi, Emanuele Sica•ARTICLE•Regional Studies Regional Science•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 7

This paper explores the link between globalization and internal mobility in Vietnam. We find that Vietnam’s internationalization processes have an asymmetric economic impact on the provinces. Using data on inter-provincial migration flows, we show that this asymmetry is also detectable in terms of differences in the levels of provincial attraction vis-à-vis internal migration. In particular, provinces receiving higher foreign direct investment ar…

  • Sustainable and accessible tourism in natural areas: A participatory approach

Roberta Sisto, Giulio Mario Cappelletti et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2022

An emerging segment of tourism demand is represented by accessible tourism, i.e. tourism activated in public spaces in the absence of any kind of barrier (architectural, cultural, sensorial, attitudinal, communicational and informational barriers) and, from a business competitiveness point of view, accessibility represents the precondition of any sustainable tourism policy and strategy. In this paper, we concentrate on tourism accessibility for p…

  • Italy and the Second World War: Alternative Perspectives

Emanuele Sica, Richard Carrier•BOOK•Italy and the Second World War•2018•Cited by: 1

Italy in the Second World War: Alternative Perspectives stems from the necessity to write an important page of Second World War history, by focusing on the Italian war experience, which has been overshadowed in international research by the attention given to its senior Axis partner. Drawing extensively on material from Italian and international archives, a team of Italian and international historians, led by Emanuele Sica and Richard Carrier, of…

  • Economic dualism and air quality in Italy: Testing the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis

Emanuele Sica, Edgardo Sica•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

The present work tests the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis (EKC) in Italy for three air pollutants, namely CO2, NOx and SOx, using an emissions data-set disaggregated at the provincial level. An empirical investigation, conducted through both a panel data and a cross-section approach, suggests the existence of the EKC at the national level for CO2 and NOx, but not for SOx. Even more interestingly, the results achieved seem to be affected b…

  • June 1940: The Italian Army and the Battle of the Alps

    Open Access•Emanuele Sica•ARTICLE•Journal of History•2012

This article focuses on the Battle of the Alps of June 1940, which pitted the Italian Regio Esercito against the French Armée des Alpes. Fearing that an early capitulation of France to the German invasion that had begun in May would prevent Italy from sharing the spoils of victory, Mussolini ordered an offensive against France on 15 June 1940. Despite the battle raging in the north, the French Army successfully repelled the attacking force and th…
