“It’s Inauthentic, but I Also Don’t Want to Get Responses from Men About Threesomes”
Online dating is exceedingly common on college campuses, yet the experiences of bisexual+ (bi+) college students are comparatively understudied. This study examines the online dating experiences of bi + college students through a three-month digital ethnography. Imbedded in a combined framework of queer theory and the sexual borderlands, findings suggest that bi + students negotiate their position within online dating’s extension of campus cultur…
Exploring How Inclusive Name and Pronoun Policies and Practices Relate to Quality of Interactions
Using a large-scale dataset from multiple institutions, our study examines the relationship between inclusive name and pronoun policies and practices and students’ perceived quality of interactions with peers, advisors, faculty, staff, and administrators. Findings indicate that affirming name and pronoun policies correlate with higher quality interactions, particularly for transgender students. Specifically, students who perceived these name and …

This study addresses this gap by ex…
Interrogating the incel-o-sphere
In critique of Habermas's public sphere, Nancy Fraser offered the ‘subaltern counterpublic’ – arenas of refuge from and counter-organizing against the wider public. But does this (re)configuration of the public sphere hold in the age of extremism on the internet? I examine the trajectory of incel as a community, interrogating whether this extremist contingent follows Fraser's subaltern counterpublic or if they exemplify a new counterpublic – the …

Measuring Systemic Oppression
Several disciplines have developed quantitative measures for systemic oppression against queer and trans people, including psychology, criminal justice, and gender and sexuality studies. These instruments can have wide-ranging influence on other fields, including higher education research. To explore how these studies operationalize queer and trans oppression, we conducted a systematic review of 33 survey instruments across seven disciplines, cod…
