Bringing up the Bodies
The contributions of Sir George Grey to disciplines as varied as botany, biology, ethnography and linguistics have contributed to his reputation as a humane, liberal-minded imperial functionary. In this context, it is relevant to bring up the contributions which Grey made to anthropology in the shape of the skulls, skeletons and mummified bodies of indigenous peoples that he sent back to scientists in Britain for analysis and display. Drugs & Doping in Sports

Doping scandals wreck the careers of sportsmen and women, they can bankrupt governing bodies, infringe personal liberties, threaten livelihoods, tarnish images, galvanise the European Union, undermine the Olympic Movement and invoke invective from politicians. Unlocking the fountains of the heart'-settler verse and the politics of sympathy
Nineteenth-century settler verse about indigenous peoples has received relatively little critical analysis; what there is has sometimes been negative, judging it as complicit in the evils of colonization. This essay sets out to show that settler poets were capable of producing powerful poems designed to enlist reader sympathy for the sufferings of indigenous peoples, as a prelude to political action aimed at ameliorating their condition. The essa…

Shame, guilt, narcissism, and depression
This study examines the relationships between shame, guilt, narcissism, and depression and the gender differences connected with these states. We hypothesize that shame would be a more powerful contributor to narcissism and depres-sion than guilt and that women would score higher in shame, higher in depres-sion, and lower in narcissism than men. The Adapted Shame/Guilt Scale, the Narcissistic Personality Inventory, and the Self-Rating Depression …
