The Evolutionary Roots of Familial Altruism
We investigated how paternity uncertainty (PU) shapes perceptions of familial kindness. We predicted that relatives with lower PU would be rated as kinder than those with higher PU. A total of 9,128 participants rated the kindness of specific relatives in their families. Main analyses focused on parents and maternal/paternal grandparents, who differ in their typical levels of PU. Siblings were included for broader within-family comparisons, while…
Czech and Slovak intended curricula in science subjects and mathematics
A curriculum is generally regarded as an instructional plan that describes what, why and how students should learn. In this comparative study, we analysed the Czech and Slovak intended curricula of science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology, geography, and geology) and mathematics by comparing their national curriculum documents in terms of learning outcomes at the lower secondary level (ISCED level 2). Our analysis showed significant differen…

One proposal for the persistence of homosexuality in the human population is the sexually antagonistic gene hypothesis, which suggests that the lower fertility of homosexual individuals, especially men, may be compensated by higher fertility of their relatives of the opposite sex. To test this hypothesis, we have collected data from 7,312 heterosexual men, 459 gay men, 3,352 heterosexual women, and 79 lesbian women mainly from Czechia. In an onli…

Comparative studies on science curricula provide insights into educational standards worldwide. Accordingly, in this study, we analysed the intended curricula of mathematics and science subjects of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland and Slovenia by comparing their lower secondary (ISCED 2) National Curriculum Documents on mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography and geology from the perspective of learning outcomes. By document analys…
