  • Banning “braingasm

    Open Access•Sijun Shen, M Andrejevic et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Media Studies•2025•References: 37

This article analyses a global attack on ASMR women producers who produce "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" videos initiated by 8Chan, U.S. platforms and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). We consider ASMR as a form of feminine labour that employs bodily and sensory effects to generate affective pleasures, and it troubles boundaries and expectations about women's social positions. The very fact that such labour became the target of 8Chan men…

  • Commercialising potential as a critical factor of differential media management

    Open Access•Sijun Shen•ARTICLE•Media Culture & Society•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 15

This article contributes to research on China’s (differential) media regulations by studying China’s management of mukbang and online eating disorder communities, both of which feature binge eating in varying media forms. China tolerates the former insofar as the content is modulated and monetised but has completely eradicated the latter. This research draws on Luzhou Li’s cultural zoning to address China’s differential regulations that expedite …

  • The Associations Between Older Driver Licensure Laws with Travel and Passenger Behaviors Among Adults Aged 65 Years or Older (United States, 2003–2017)

Open Access•Sijun Shen, Marizen Ramirez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

In general, licensure law provisions are not strongly related to older adults' mobility, in particular for older male adults. Older female adults' daily mobility may be more likely to be influenced by the change of licensure laws than older male adults. The existence of gender-based disparities in responding to licensure laws requires future studies to account for the gender difference in estimating the effects of those traffic policies on older …

  • A cross-sectional study of characteristics of bicyclist upper and lower extremity injuries in bicycle-vehicle crashes in Ohio, United States, 2013–2017

Open Access•Jodie Makara, Sijun Shen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Our study has identified important factors that were associated with bicyclists' odds of sustaining an extremity injury. Based on these findings, targeted educational efforts and interventions can be implemented to prevent bicyclists from these injuries

  • Driver License Renewal Laws and Older Adults’ Daily Driving, United States, 2003–2017

Open Access•Sijun Shen, Li Li et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2020•References: 1

Policymakers should be aware that males and females may respond differently to older driver licensure laws, which may require distinct interventions to preserve their mobility. Future studies should consider the gender disparities when examining the association between driver licensure policies and older adults' transportation safety and mobility
