Community-based participatory research
People-centered care (PCC) represents a key paradigm shift in achieving universal health coverage and closing global public health divides. Amid growing global health disparities, shifts in epidemiological disease burden, and evolving sociopolitical contexts that affect healthcare delivery and research initiatives, there is an urgent need for public health scientists to develop community-rooted research strategies that uphold health promotion pri…
“…I feel like I am just staying here waiting for death”
Refugees and migrants with advanced illness frequently face fragmented and inconsistent access to health services. Structural barriers delay symptom management, undermine continuity of care, and limit access to palliative support. A clearer understanding of their lived experiences is essential to inform equitable health system responses and inclusive models of care. This study explored the lived experiences of individuals with advanced illness in…
The inclusion of LGBTQ + people within UK health policy
While the needs of some minoritized groups are well recognized within health policies, LGBTQ + people remain marginalized. Further work is needed to educate and enable policy makers to advocate for LGBTQ + people and communities, and to ensure equitable and respectful inclusion of all minoritised groups
Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Practices and Human Caring Science
Psychedelic therapies intentionally combine a caring/healing environment, psychotherapy, and psychedelic medicine as a powerful means of treating intractable conditions of depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. This article utilizes the nursing theory of human caring science, as articulated by Jean Watson, to describe the essential and fundamental human caring qualities in psychedelic therapy. By mapping these qualities onto the traits of …
The Impact of Primary Care Practice Structural Capabilities on Nurse Practitioner Burnout, Job Satisfaction, and Intent to Leave

OBJECTIVES: We investigated the association between structural capabilities and primary care NP job outcomes (ie, burnout, job dissatisfaction, and intent to leave). …

The Critical Need for a Meaning-Centered Team-Level Intervention to Address Healthcare Provider Distress Now
COVID-19 has unveiled and amplified the burnout, grief, and other forms of distress among healthcare providers (HCPs) that long preceded the pandemic. The suffering of the healthcare workforce cannot be simply and sufficiently addressed with a single psychotherapeutic intervention. Nevertheless, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Studies recommended prioritizing interventions that generate an increased sense of meaning …
Integration of Palliative Care Into All Serious Illness Care as A Human Right
Deaths from COVID-19 are approaching 600 000 in the US and 3 million worldwide. As intensive care units have reached or exceeded capacity in many hospitals, concerns have grown about the ethical dimensions of rationed care. But many of these focused on who gets a ventilator, rather than how to provide palliative care to those who are seriously ill, including those treated with ventilators and those who may not want or cannot get a ventilator
Building Nursing and Midwifery Capacity Through Rwanda’s Human Resources for Health Program
Global disparities in the quantity, distribution, and skills of health workers worldwide pose a threat to attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and deepens already existing global health inequities. Rwanda and other low-resource countries face a critical shortage of health professionals, particularly nurses and midwives. This article describes the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Program in Rwanda, a collaboration between the Mi…
