A structured blended learning approach for medical imaging technology interns
BACKGROUND: To address radiation safety constraints and equipment shortages in Computed Tomography (CT) training, this study introduces a Structured Blended Learning (SBL) framework integrating Small Private Online Courses (SPOCs), Flipped Classroom (FC), Virtual Simulation (VS), and remote supervision enabled by 5G communication infrastructure. This approach bridges the theory-practice gap by providing a structured progression from knowledge acq…
A systematic review of student STEM competencies in secondary integrated STEM curricula
Integrated STEM curricula are increasingly advocated as the technique to enhance students' STEM competencies in secondary education. However, the conceptualisation, operationalisation, assessment and challenges across current studies remain unclear. This systematic review synthesised empirical evidence on student STEM competencies in secondary integrated STEM curriculum published from 2021 to 2025. In accordance with PRISMA guidelines, 40 peer‐re…
Can digital literacy shaped by SES-driven social capital predict secondary school graduates' access to higher education
Reproducing Inequality? Social Capital, Digital Literacy, and SES in Access to Higher Education
Access to higher education and high-quality sources has become a new focus in the digital transformation framework now that higher education is expanding. With a focus on the roles of digital literacy and socioeconomic status (SES), this study examines the influence of social capital on China’s high school graduates’ access to higher education. Regression and group regression analyses are used in this study to examine the mechanism shaping learni…
Burden of lower respiratory infections in five East Asian countries from 1990 to 2021
Objective: Lower respiratory infections (LRIs) remain a major global health challenge. Although the overall burden has declined, cross-country differences in long-term trends, age-sex patterns, and risk factors in East Asia are not well characterized. This study provides the first systematic comparison of long-term LRI trends across five East Asian countries-China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and Mongolia-usin…
Investigating Sustainable Development in Education
Recently, sustainability in education has emerged as a central topic for scholars. However, the role of social capital, shaped by socioeconomic status (SES), in improving digital literacy among secondary school graduates, remains unexplored. It is unclear whether digital literacy subsequently influences their access to higher education. This research paper tackles this gap, investigating the relevance of sustainable development by considering sec…
Community efficacy for non-communicable disease management (Coen)
The importance of community-based non-communicable disease (NCD) management has been internationally recognized. However, currently, no instrument is available to evaluate a community’s ability to provide NCD management for its residents. This study defined such an ability as “Community Efficacy for NCD Management” (COEN), and aimed to conceptualize, develop and validate a scale to measure COEN. We first conducted literature review, expert interv…
Taking precautions in advance
Introduction Memory-related diseases (MDs) pose a significant healthcare challenge globally, and early detection is essential for effective intervention. This study investigates the potential of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as a clinical diagnostic indicator for MDs. Utilizing data from the 2018 national baseline survey of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), encompassing 10,062 Chinese individuals aged 45 or older, we…
A network analysis of subjective well-being in Chinese high school students
Targeting S8 (Have you been anxious, worried, or upset) as a potential intervention target may increase high school students' SWB effectively
Sarcastic Meaning of the Slightly Smiling Face Emoji from Chinese Twitter Users
In most cultures, the Slightly Smiling Face (smiley) icon indicates friendliness and niceness. However, this SSF symbol in emoji may also indicate a negative meaning of sarcasm and irony to some Chinese social media users. This research analyses the sentiment reflected in the use of the SSF emoji as used by Chinese users on Twitter and applies quantitative methods to investigate the linguistic and social constraints of the SSF emoji's negative va…
Characterization and Transcriptome Analysis of a Long-Chain n-Alkane-Degrading Strain Acinetobacter pittii SW-1
Strain sw-1, isolated from 7619-m seawater of the Mariana Trench, was identified as Acinetobacter pittii by 16S rRNA gene and whole-genome sequencing. A. pittii sw-1 was able to efficiently utilize long-chain n -alkanes (C 18 -C 36 ), but not short- and medium-chain n -alkanes (C 8 -C 16 ). The degradation rate of C 20 was 91.25%, followed by C 18 , C 22 , C 24 , C 32 , and C 36 with the degradation rates of 89.30%, 84.03%, 80.29%, 30.29%, and 13…
Chinese medicinal herb extract inhibits PQS-mediated quorum sensing system in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
PharmMapper 2017 update
The PharmMapper online tool is a web server for potential drug target identification by reversed pharmacophore matching the query compound against an in-house pharmacophore model database. The original version of PharmMapper includes more than 7000 target pharmacophores derived from complex crystal structures with corresponding protein target annotations. In this article, we present a new version of the PharmMapper web server, of which the backen…
